Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 50b Platinum — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AC50BPL)
This is a 3.7V, 1900mAh Li-ion cell for the Archos 50b Platinum smartphone. It replaces the original battery when capacity has dropped or the cell no longer holds a charge. Fits the 50b Platinum directly using OEM part references AC50BPL, AL50BPL, AC50BL, and AC50BLP.
- Archos 50b Platinum compatibility: The 50b Platinum uses a fixed 3.7V single-cell Li-ion architecture with a direct connector that matches this cell. The BMS handshake on this device does not require proprietary authentication — the replacement cell communicates charge state through the standard fuel gauge IC without additional pairing steps.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 50b Platinum platform. The BMS accepted the cell without triggering over-voltage cutoff on charge, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state-of-charge across the full discharge curve without error flags.
- First-cycle fuel gauge recalibration: On first installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC on the 50b Platinum calibrates against the cell's discharge curve — doing this before high-current charging prevents the IC from mapping current into an uncalibrated curve.
Why the 50b Platinum reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The 50b Platinum stores the discharge curve of the old cell inside its fuel gauge IC. When a new cell goes in, the IC is still referencing that old curve, so the percentage reading drifts from actual charge state. This shows up as the phone jumping from 40% to 5% with no warning, or sitting at 100% well past a full charge. One complete discharge cycle — down to automatic shutdown — followed by an uninterrupted charge to full resets the coulomb counter against the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, percentage accuracy stabilises.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — typically during modem activity, screen-on bursts, or simultaneous background sync. The 50b Platinum's power IC cuts the device when terminal voltage falls below roughly 3.2V, which can happen at 25% reported charge if the fuel gauge IC has not yet recalibrated. The fix is to complete the first-cycle recalibration described above. Once the IC has mapped the new cell's voltage-to-capacity curve, the shutdown threshold triggers at the correct low-charge point rather than mid-use.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Archos 50b Platinum won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what's happening?
The cell has discharged below the BMS lockout threshold, typically under 2.5V per cell, and the protection circuit has opened to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. Most BMS circuits on this platform will begin a trickle pre-charge recovery cycle and unlock once the cell climbs back above 2.8V, at which point the phone will boot normally.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I charged the new battery — is the charger the problem?
It's usually not the charger. On the first charge cycle, the 50b Platinum's charge IC may not negotiate the higher current rate because it doesn't yet have a valid cell impedance profile to work against. Complete one full standard-charge cycle at the lower default rate first. After that cycle the charge IC recalculates the cell's internal resistance and fast charge resumes at the rated current on the next plug-in.
The phone feels noticeably warm near the battery compartment while charging — is that a fault?
Some warmth during the first few charge cycles on a new high-impedance cell is normal. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in one, which generates more heat as charge current flows through it. If the phone is too hot to hold against your palm, stop the charge, let it cool to room temperature, and restart — that points to an impedance mismatch worth investigating. After three to five full cycles, internal resistance drops and warmth during charging reduces to the same level as the original cell.
