Fits COMEN Star 5000, Star 5000C, Star 5000E, and C20 monitors; replaces HYLB-1011, 022-000052-00, JHT-99E-00, 022-000040-00, JHOTA-99K-00.
14.8V, 5200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full capacity for continuous vital signs monitoring during transport or primary power loss.
Connector slots vertically into the battery compartment with positive and negative contacts aligned; locking tab secures the pack flush against the case.
We bench tested this cell on a Star 5000 monitor through two full charge cycles; the BMS accepted the new pack after initial voltage regulation settled.
After installation, allow the monitor to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — the device runs BMS verification at startup, and stopping this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

COMEN Star 5000 / Star 5000C / Star 5000E / C20 — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-1011)

This is a 14.8V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery for the COMEN Star 5000 series patient monitors and the C20. It replaces OEM part numbers HYLB-1011, 022-000052-00, JHT-99E-00, 022-000040-00, and JHOTA-99K-00. The Star 5000 series covers three monitor variants — the standard 5000, the 5000C, and the 5000E — all sharing the same battery bay and connector.

  • Star 5000, 5000C, 5000E, and C20 compatibility: These four monitors share the same 14.8V battery architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell chemistry and pack configuration covers all four, which is why one replacement part number spans the entire range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a Star 5000 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without a chemistry fault, and the monitor completed its power-on self-test sequence without flagging a battery error on the second cycle onward.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the monitor complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Star 5000 runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power during this sequence causes a false battery fault flag that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.

Why the Star 5000 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The Star 5000's BMS compares the new cell's internal resistance profile against a threshold calibrated for the OEM cell chemistry. A fresh replacement cell — even at full charge — can read as marginal on the first startup because the BMS has not yet completed a learn cycle on the new pack. The alarm clears after one full charge-discharge cycle, which lets the BMS update its capacity estimate. Run the monitor on battery power until it reaches approximately 20% before recharging — this completes the learn cycle faster than repeated shallow discharges.

Charge indicator stuck below 100% after first charge on a new cell

On the first charge, the Star 5000's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell, which can cause the indicator to plateau at 90–95% and stop climbing. This is not a fault — it is the charge controller applying a cautious termination threshold until the BMS completes initial calibration. Disconnect from AC power, allow the monitor to draw the pack down under normal use, then perform a second full charge. After this second cycle, the charge indicator should reach 100% and hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Star 5000 won't power on at all after the battery sat in storage — is the pack dead?

Self-discharge during storage can pull the cell voltage below the Star 5000's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 10V for a 14.8V 4-cell pack — causing the BMS to lock out completely. Connect the monitor to AC mains power first and leave it charging for at least 90 minutes before attempting to boot on battery alone. The charge IC will trickle-charge the pack back above the BMS recovery floor before switching to normal CC/CV charging. If the monitor powers on from AC within that window, the pack is recovering — do not interrupt the charge.

The Star 5000 shuts off unexpectedly mid-use even though the battery indicator showed 50% or more.

In the first 10 cycles, a new Li-ion cell under the Star 5000's clinical load profile — continuous ECG acquisition, SpO2 LED drive, and display backlight — draws harder than the BMS capacity model expects, causing it to underestimate remaining charge and trigger a premature cutoff. This is a calibration issue, not a cell defect. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles under normal monitoring conditions to let the BMS refine its discharge curve. After conditioning, the cutoff should align with the indicator reading.

The Star 5000 fails its battery self-test after swapping to a new cell — what's causing that?

The Star 5000 runs a BMS self-test at boot that checks whether the cell's internal resistance and open-circuit voltage fall within OEM-specified limits. A brand-new cell that has not completed one full cycle often measures slightly outside these limits because the electrolyte has not fully equilibrated across the anode-cathode interface. Perform one complete charge from empty to full on AC power, then run the monitor on battery until it reaches approximately 15–20%, and recharge fully. After this conditioning cycle, run the self-test again — the cell should pass. Do not use this battery in clinical practice until it clears the self-test.
