Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

EADS G2 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BLN-4)
This 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the OEM BLN-4 and BLN-5i packs in EADS G2, G2-T-04P, G2-T-04P/N, HH2G, and related handheld two-way radios. It matches the original connector layout and BMS handshake protocol used across the G2 platform. Capacity is 2000mAh (9.6Wh) — identical to the factory specification.
- G2 platform compatibility: The G2 series and its variants share the same 4.8V voltage rail, physical connector, and BMS communication sequence. A single pack covers the full range because the charging dock negotiates with the pack over the same contact strip regardless of the specific variant suffix.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads on the G2 platform and confirmed the BMS holds voltage through sustained PTT press without tripping overcurrent protection. The pack accepted a full charge cycle without fault LED on the dock.
- First insertion contact check: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The G2 dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins — this is not a defect.
Why the G2 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on an ageing Ni-MH pack
Ni-MH cells develop internal impedance over repeated cycles. Under the current spike of a sustained PTT press, a high-impedance cell sags below the radio's minimum operating voltage threshold. The G2 firmware interprets this as a low-battery condition and steps down transmit power to protect the RF stage. Replacing the pack restores the voltage headroom the radio needs to sustain full TX output through a shift.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after inserting a new pack
New Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage, not full charge voltage — typically 1.2V per cell, which reads lower than a freshly charged cell at 1.4V. The G2 bar indicator uses simple voltage thresholds, so a new pack at storage voltage will display one bar fewer than its actual capacity warrants. Run a full charge cycle before judging the pack's state. After one complete charge, the bar indicator will reflect the true cell voltage and the reading will correct itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
My G2 cuts out completely mid-transmission even with a new battery inserted — what's happening?
A transmit current spike can momentarily pull the pack voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold, causing an instantaneous trip and cutting the radio's output. This is more likely if the gold contact strip has surface oxidation preventing a solid connection, which adds resistance and worsens the voltage dip. Remove the pack, clean the contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the cutout still happens, charge the pack to full voltage (4.8V at the pack terminals) before attempting a transmission test.
The charger dock fault LED never clears — it just blinks continuously after I insert the new pack.
A continuous fault blink usually means the dock is seeing the pack voltage as below its acceptance threshold, which can happen when a new Ni-MH pack sits at storage voltage for an extended period. The dock interprets this as a damaged or deeply discharged cell and refuses to enter the bulk charge phase. Remove the pack, let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes, wipe the contact strip clean, and reinsert with firm, even pressure. If the fault clears within 30 seconds of reinsertion, the dock has accepted the pack and charging will proceed normally.
After a full charge, the G2 still shows only one or two bars — is the replacement pack faulty?
One or two bars after a full charge cycle points to a cell impedance issue, not a capacity problem — the voltage threshold the radio uses to calculate bar count is sensitive to how cleanly the cells hold voltage under load. Run the radio through one complete discharge and recharge cycle to allow the Ni-MH cells to condition. After that cycle, check the bar indicator again under a brief PTT press; if bars climb to three or four, the cells have settled and the pack is operating correctly.
