Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE-Ericsson 400P / 605P Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (344A456P1)
This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for GE-Ericsson handheld transceivers including the 400P, 605P, COUGAR 400P, and COUGAR 6000PGE series. It replaces OEM packs 344A456P1, PB200, PB300, PB800, TOPB100H, TOPB200, TOPB202, TOPBP200, TOPBP300, and BKB191204/1 among others. Voltage and connector geometry match the OEM spec exactly.
- 400P and 605P platform compatibility: The 400P, 605P, and COUGAR variants all run on the same 7.2V six-cell Ni-MH rail with a shared connector footprint. One battery pack covers the full platform because the contact layout and BMS handshake requirements are identical across these models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and PTT-cycle loads on a 400P chassis. The BMS accepted the dock charge without a fault flag and sustained voltage through repeated transmit bursts without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
- First insertion on the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on the first seating, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The GE-Ericsson dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the 400P cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh pack
Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage — typically 1.1–1.15V per cell, or around 6.6–6.9V for a six-cell pack. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes hard and the BMS may interpret that voltage drop as an undervoltage fault, cutting the radio mid-transmission. This is not a defective battery. Run one full charge cycle in the dock before heavy PTT use and the cells will hold voltage under load without tripping the cutoff.
Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after swap
The 400P uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage window, not a fuel gauge calculation. A new pack at storage voltage will sit below the top threshold and display one bar short of full. This clears after the first complete charge cycle, once cells reach peak voltage around 8.4–8.5V. If the indicator still reads low after a full charge, check that the dock contacts are clean and seating fully against the pack terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charger dock LED keeps blinking and never goes solid — new battery, 400P platform. What's happening?
A blinking fault LED usually means the pack voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold — common on a new Ni-MH pack that shipped at storage voltage. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly to complete the BMS handshake. If the dock still blinks, try a 30-second removal and reseating to let the charger re-poll the pack voltage. Most docks will accept the pack and begin a conditioning charge once the contacts are clean and the BMS handshake completes.
Radio drops to noticeably weaker audio output mid-shift — battery looks fine on the bar indicator. Is this the battery or the radio?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load, not a radio fault. Ni-MH cells that have gone through many shallow cycles develop higher internal impedance — the bar indicator still reads adequate at rest, but voltage drops under the sustained current draw of repeated transmissions. The fix is to run the pack through two or three full charge-discharge cycles to recover cell capacity and reduce impedance. If sag continues after reconditioning, cell impedance has degraded past recovery and the pack needs replacing.
Battery was sitting unused for several months. Now the dock won't charge it at all — no LED response.
Extended storage can push Ni-MH cells below the minimum voltage threshold the dock needs to detect a valid pack — typically around 5V for a 7.2V pack. Most GE-Ericsson docks will not initiate a charge on a pack below that floor. Apply a brief trickle charge using a compatible universal charger set to Ni-MH at 100–200mA until the pack reads at least 6V, then transfer it back to the dock. Once above the detection threshold, the dock will recognise the pack and resume a normal charge cycle.
