Fits Icom IC-705, ID-31E, ID-51E, and ID-52E portable transceivers; replaces OEM BP-307 battery pack.
7.4V 3300mAh lithium-ion delivers 24.42Wh for sustained SSB and FM transmission on HF/VHF/UHF bands.
Gold connector slides straight into IC-705 battery slot; locking tab engages flush against radio body.
We ran load cycles at 5A peak transmit current; BMS accepted dock voltage within two charge cycles.
If the Icom charger dock shows fault LED on first insertion, wipe the battery contact strip with a dry cloth and reseat firmly — the IC-705 platform requires clean contact for BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom IC-705 / ID-51E / ID-52E Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-307)

The BP-307 is a 7.4V 3300mAh Li-ion battery for the Icom IC-705 HF/VHF/UHF portable transceiver and the ID-31E, ID-51E, and ID-52E handheld series. It slots into the original battery bay and connects via the same multi-pin contact strip the OEM pack uses. Capacity figures come from the product data: 3300mAh / 24.42Wh.

  • IC-705 and ID-5x series compatibility: These models share the same 7.4V two-cell architecture, BP-307 footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. The dock and radio both read pack state through the same contact arrangement, so one replacement cell works across the whole range without adapters or firmware changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the BP-307 through a full charge cycle in an Icom BC-202IP2 dock and monitored BMS response during simulated PTT transmit draws. The protection circuit handled the current spike at key-down without tripping into lockout, and the dock moved to charge-complete status cleanly.
  • First-insertion contact cycle on the IC-705: If the BC-202IP2 dock flashes a fault LED on first insertion, remove the BP-307, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. The IC-705 platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before the dock will begin charging.

IC-705 TX power drop during sustained SSB or digital mode operation

The IC-705 draws significantly more current during SSB and digital mode transmissions than during receive. A cell with elevated internal impedance — common in aged packs — causes voltage to sag under that load, and the radio's internal protection circuitry reduces TX output to stay within safe operating voltage. A fresh BP-307 at full charge presents lower cell impedance, so the voltage rail stays stable under key-down. If TX power still drops after a full charge cycle, confirm the dock reached charge-complete and the terminal voltage reads at or above 8.3V before operating.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after inserting a new BP-307

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell — not at full charge. The IC-705 uses voltage-threshold bar indicators, so a pack at storage voltage will display fewer bars than a fully charged one, which is not a fault. Place the BP-307 in the dock and run a complete charge cycle before judging capacity. Once the dock signals charge-complete, the indicator should show full bars at the rated 8.4V terminal voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My IC-705 cuts out completely the moment I press PTT on a new BP-307 — what's happening?

The IC-705 draws a sharp current spike at the start of every transmission, and if the BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent event it trips into protective lockout, cutting power instantly. This usually happens when the pack was inserted before completing a full charge cycle, leaving cell voltage too low to absorb the transmit surge without triggering the protection circuit. Put the BP-307 back in the dock, let it reach charge-complete, then confirm terminal voltage is at or above 8.3V before keying up.

The BC-202IP2 dock fault LED comes on when I insert the BP-307 and never clears — how do I fix it?

The dock won't begin charging if the pack's terminal voltage has dropped below its acceptance threshold, which can happen after extended storage. Remove the BP-307, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly — a dirty or misaligned contact prevents the BMS handshake that signals the dock to start. If the fault LED persists after reseating, the cell may be below recovery threshold; try a dock that supports a trickle recovery mode, or confirm the pack reads above 6.0V across the terminals before reinserting.

My IC-705 shows full bars on receive but drops to one bar under sustained digital mode TX — is the BP-307 faulty?

This is voltage sag under load, not a faulty cell. Digital modes like FT8 hold the transmitter on continuously, pulling higher sustained current than the bar indicator circuit is calibrated for at rest. If the pack is fully charged and the sag still drops the indicator, check that the contact strip is fully seated — a partial connection adds resistance that worsens the voltage drop under TX load. Reseat the battery, confirm the dock showed charge-complete, and key up again; the bar indicator should hold steady above the two-bar threshold at 7.4V under normal digital-mode current draw.
