Sale priceFrom $54.99 USD Regular price $67.99
Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Icom IC-H2, IC-H6, IC-H12, IC-H16 handheld radios; replaces OEM BP-7, BP-7H, CM-7, CM-7G, CM-7H battery packs.
Delivers 13.2V at 1000mAh capacity; supports full transmit power output across the entire charge cycle without voltage sag cutoff.
Connector seats into the radio's battery slot with positive tab forward; locking tabs engage on both sides for secure seating during transmission.
Bench testing showed BMS accepted charge immediately on dock insertion with no fault LED; cell delivered steady voltage under sustained PTT load cycles.
If the charger dock shows a fault light on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the Icom platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new cell before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom IC-H2 / IC-H16 Series — 13.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BP-7)

This is a 13.2V, 1000mAh Ni-MH battery that replaces the BP-7, BP-7H, and CM-7 packs in Icom handheld two-way radios. It fits the IC-H2, IC-H6, IC-H12, IC-H16, and over 46 additional models in that family. Voltage and connector match the original Icom specification — no adapters needed.

  • IC-H series platform fit: The IC-H2 through IC-H16 share a common 13.2V battery rail and the same physical latch and contact layout. Any pack built to the BP-7 footprint drops into all of them without modification. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and transmit cycles on the IC-H2 dock. The BMS held within the expected voltage window during PTT spikes and the dock moved from charge to trickle without fault flags.
  • First insertion into the Icom dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on the first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The Icom dock requires a clean contact read to accept the BMS handshake — a single reseat typically clears it.

IC-H2 transmit cutout on a fresh BP-7 pack

A new Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage — typically 11.8V to 12.2V, not the full 13.2V operating level. When you key the PTT on a pack at storage voltage, the transmit current spike can pull the cell stack below the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold. The radio reads this as a fault and drops TX. Run one full charge cycle before first use and the cutout stops.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new pack

The IC-H series uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar maps to a specific voltage band, not a capacity percentage. A new pack fresh off storage charge sits in the 12.0V range, which puts it one threshold below the top bar. After a full charge cycle brings the pack to 13.2V, the indicator moves to the correct level. If the top bar still does not appear after a full charge, check that the dock contacts are clean and that the charge cycle completed — dock contact resistance causes incomplete charging more often than a faulty cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My IC-H2 cuts out the moment I press PTT on the new BP-7 — is the pack faulty?

Almost certainly not. A Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage, usually around 11.8–12.2V. When PTT fires, the transmit current spike pulls the cell stack below the BMS cutoff threshold at that low starting voltage, so the radio drops out. Charge the pack fully before first use and the cutout stops. If it persists after a full charge, confirm the dock contacts are clean — dirty contacts cause an incomplete charge that mimics this fault.

The charger dock stuck on fault LED after I inserted the new BP-7 — charge never started.

The Icom dock reads the battery contacts before it opens the charge circuit. Oils or oxidation on the gold contact strip interrupt that read and lock the dock into a fault state. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. That single clean contact cycle is usually enough for the dock to accept the BMS handshake and begin charging. If the fault LED persists, inspect the dock contacts for corrosion and clean them with a dry cotton swab.

Radio drops to noticeably weaker TX output mid-shift even though the pack was fully charged at the start.

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output — not a faulty pack. Ni-MH cells lose voltage more steeply than Li-ion under continuous load, and the IC-H series will reduce TX power when the supply rail drops below a set threshold. Heavy back-to-back transmissions drain the pack faster than intermittent use. If this happens early in the shift, check that the dock completed a full charge cycle — a partial charge is the most common cause of early voltage sag on this platform.
