Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kenwood TK-2200 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KNB-53N)
This is a 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion battery for the Kenwood TK-2200, TK-2202, TK-2206, and TK-2207 portable UHF transceivers, plus over 80 additional compatible models. It replaces OEM packs including KNB-53N, KNB-29N, KNB-30N, and RAD0148. The pack uses the same footprint and connector as factory Kenwood batteries in this series.
- TK-2200 series compatibility: The TK-2200, TK-2202, TK-2206, and TK-2207 share the same 7.4V battery bay, BMS handshake protocol, and slide-lock connector. One pack covers the full platform without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a TK-2202 through multiple PTT-heavy sessions. The BMS held voltage through sustained transmit loads and returned expected bar readings on the radio's indicator within two full charge cycles.
- First insertion into KSC-35 dock: If the KSC-35 or KSC-35S dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kenwood dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the TK-2200 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted battery
New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When PTT is pressed, the transmit current spike can hit 1.5–2A on UHF handhelds. If the pack hasn't completed a full charge cycle, the BMS may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the output. The radio drops off the air without warning. One full charge cycle before first field use resolves this — the BMS recalibrates its overcurrent threshold against a fully topped cell.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on the new KNB-53N
The TK-2200 platform reads battery level using voltage-threshold steps — not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one bar fewer than full. This is not a defective cell. Run the pack through one complete charge in the KSC-35 dock until the green LED holds solid, then power on the radio. The bar indicator should read full at 8.4V across the pack terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TK-2202 drops to low transmit power halfway through a shift — is the new battery causing this?
Yes, this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the pack discharges, cell voltage drops under the sustained current draw of UHF transmission, and the radio automatically reduces TX power to stay within its operating voltage floor. It is not a faulty pack — it is the radio protecting its PA stage. If it happens early in a shift, the pack was not fully charged before use; charge to 8.4V and test again.
The KSC-35 dock blinks amber continuously and never switches to green — what's wrong?
A continuous amber blink on the KSC-35 means the dock detected the pack voltage below its acceptance threshold — common with a new cell shipped at storage voltage. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault persists, leave the pack in the dock for 10–15 minutes without removing it — the charger will attempt a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell above the acceptance floor before switching to normal charge mode.
The radio powers on fine but cuts out completely the instant I press PTT — nothing on the display, just dead silence.
This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike at the moment PTT is pressed. The BMS sees the sudden 1.5–2A draw as an overcurrent event and disconnects the output to protect the cells. It is almost always caused by using the radio before the new pack has completed its first full charge. Place the pack in the KSC-35 dock, charge until the green LED holds solid, then reinsert into the radio and test PTT — the BMS will have set its overcurrent threshold correctly against a full cell.
