Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kodak PixPro AZ521 / AZ526 / AZ525 / AZ501 Astro Zoom — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LB-060)

This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh (4.07Wh) Li-ion cell built to the LB-060 specification. It fits the Kodak PixPro AZ521, AZ525, AZ526, AZ501, and twelve additional Astro Zoom models that share the same battery bay dimensions and connector. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a charge between shoots.

  • Astro Zoom series compatibility: These Kodak Astro Zoom bodies share a common battery compartment geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake tied to the LB-060 cell profile. One replacement covers the full AZ5xx range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a PixPro AZ521 body. The BMS accepted the cell, the battery indicator populated correctly, and the camera exited low-battery lockout without a fault code.
  • First-cycle charge procedure for Astro Zoom bodies: Charge this cell fully inside the camera body before your first shoot. The AZ5xx BMS recalibrates its battery-remaining display during the first in-body charge cycle. Skipping this step can cause the indicator to show full charge and then drop suddenly mid-session.

Dead battery indicator showing on a partially charged LB-060 replacement

The AZ5xx battery indicator is mapped against voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A fresh replacement cell discharges along a slightly different slope until the BMS has logged one full cycle. This mismatch can trigger the low-battery warning — or even camera shutdown — while the cell still holds usable charge. One complete in-body charge cycle from 0% to full recalibrates the threshold mapping and resolves the false cutoff.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the AZ521 display

The AZ5xx indicator estimates remaining charge by reading cell voltage at intervals and mapping it to a fixed lookup table. A new Li-ion cell has a flatter mid-range voltage plateau than a used cell, so the camera reads the same voltage at 80% and 60% and snaps between values abruptly. This is a display calibration issue, not a cell fault. After two or three full charge-discharge cycles, voltage behaviour settles and the percentage display stabilises — check that resting cell voltage reads between 4.15V and 4.20V after a full charge as a baseline confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kodak PixPro AZ521 says "no battery" or won't turn on with the new LB-060 installed — what's happening?

The AZ5xx BMS runs an authentication check on first install and can reject a new cell if it has never completed a charge cycle in the camera body. Insert the battery, connect the camera to its charger, and let it run a full charge from flat to 100% without powering the camera on. After that single charge cycle, the body recognises the cell and powers on normally.

Flash takes noticeably longer to recycle between shots with this replacement — is the cell faulty?

Flash recycling draws a burst of current to recharge the capacitor, and that draw causes a brief voltage sag in the cell. If the battery is new and hasn't completed a calibration cycle, the BMS can interpret that sag as a low-charge state and throttle output current to protect the cell. Run one full charge-discharge cycle first. If slow recycling continues after that, check resting voltage after a full charge — it should read 4.15V to 4.20V. Anything below 4.10V points to a cell that needs replacing.

Shot count drops significantly in cold weather with the LB-060 — is this normal for the AZ5xx?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because ion mobility inside the cell slows down. At around 0°C, an LB-060 cell can deliver noticeably fewer shots than at room temperature — this is chemistry, not a defect. Keep a spare cell in an inside jacket pocket between shots to maintain its temperature. When you return to a warm environment, charge the cold cell fully before the next session and capacity returns to normal.
