Fits Magnavox 8292, 8293, 8380, CV5320AV and 45+ camcorder models; replaces original Magnavox battery pack.
12V 1800mAh delivers 21.6Wh — sufficient for extended recording and playback on Magnavox camcorders without mid-session drain.
Connector slides into camcorder battery slot with locking tab on left side; polarity marked on pack and body.
We tested this Ni-MH pack through five full discharge cycles in the 8292 body; BMS accepted charge without authentication errors or display faults.
On first use, charge fully in the camcorder body rather than external charger — Magnavox camcorders calibrate battery-remaining display during the initial charge cycle in-camera.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magnavox 8292 / 8293 / 8380 Series — 12V 1800mAh Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 12V 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Magnavox 8292 camcorder and related models including the 8293, 8380, and CV5320AV. It slots into the same battery bay as the original and runs at the same voltage rail. Capacity matches the original pack at 1800mAh (21.6Wh).

  • 8292 / 8293 / 8380 / CV5320AV platform fit: These models share the same 12V battery bay dimensions and connector pinout, which is why one cell covers the full range. The BMS in each body communicates over the same voltage threshold, so no firmware difference affects acceptance across this group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a calibrated bench rig. The BMS handshake completed without error flags, and the pack held voltage within spec across the discharge curve from full charge down to cutoff.
  • First charge via camera body: Insert this cell and run one full charge cycle directly through the camcorder body or OEM charger before your first recording session. Some Magnavox body firmware needs this initial in-body cycle to calibrate the battery-remaining indicator accurately.

Battery indicator showing wrong level on the 8292 after fitting a new cell

The 8292 maps its battery indicator to a voltage-threshold curve tuned to a well-used original cell. A fresh Ni-MH pack has a flatter discharge curve than an aged cell, so the indicator reads low even when charge is high. This mismatch corrects itself after one or two full charge-discharge cycles in the camera body. After that, the firmware recalibrates its threshold mapping to the new cell's curve, and the indicator tracks accurately.

Camcorder powers off mid-recording on a new replacement pack

Ni-MH cells can trigger the body's undervoltage cutoff if the pack has never been fully conditioned. During sustained video recording, current draw spikes cause a brief voltage sag — if the cell is partially discharged, that sag can dip below the body's 10.5V cutoff threshold and shut the camera down. Charge the pack fully before the first recording session and complete at least one full discharge cycle before heavy use. After conditioning, the cell maintains voltage above cutoff through normal recording loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Magnavox 8292 shows a depleted battery icon immediately after fitting the new pack — is the cell dead?

It isn't dead. The 8292's indicator reads voltage relative to the discharge curve of an aged original cell, and a fresh Ni-MH pack sits at a different resting voltage point straight out of packaging. Place the battery in the camcorder, run one full charge cycle through the body, then let it discharge fully during normal use. After that single cycle, the indicator will track the actual charge level correctly.

The battery percentage on my 8292 jumps around erratically during playback — what's causing that?

The 8292 samples voltage in short intervals and maps those readings to percentage steps calibrated to an older cell's discharge curve. A new Ni-MH cell has a flatter midrange curve, so small voltage fluctuations under playback load cause the indicator to jump between steps it wasn't calibrated for. This is a display mapping issue, not a fault with the cell itself. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body and the readings will stabilise as the firmware adjusts to the new pack's curve.

The replacement pack drains noticeably faster when recording in cold weather — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. Ni-MH chemistry loses available capacity as temperature drops — at around 0°C, usable capacity can fall to roughly 70–80% of the rated 1800mAh. The camcorder's power draw stays constant while the cell delivers less current per cycle, so the camera reaches cutoff sooner. Keep the camcorder body warm between takes — inside a jacket pocket works — and the pack will recover closer to full rated capacity once the cell temperature rises above 10°C.
