Fits NEC E540, N411i, N850, N511i; replaces OEM battery MAY-BD0027.
3.7V, 850mAh Li-ion cell delivers sustained voltage for calls, messaging, and standby on this compact handset.
Single connector slot with flat orientation; no locking tab — seats flush against the phone housing.
We bench-tested the MAY-BD0027 replacement against the E540's fuel gauge IC; BMS accepted charge current without fault codes on first insertion.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with fast charging disabled — this recalibrates the fuel gauge against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NEC E540 / N850 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (MAY-BD0027)

This is the MAY-BD0027 replacement cell for the NEC E540, N411i, N850, and N511i smartphones. It runs at 3.7V with an 850mAh (3.15Wh) capacity. When the original cell degrades and can no longer hold voltage under screen or modem load, this is the direct swap.

  • E540, N411i, N850, N511i compatibility: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail, which is why one part number covers the whole group. The BMS handshake protocol is consistent across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge-discharge cycle on the bench. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake without fault flags and held voltage steady through simulated modem and display load spikes.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and complete one full discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the charge IC starts pushing higher current into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under modem or display load at a higher state-of-charge than the IC expects. The phone reads 25% but the cell voltage drops below the shutdown threshold under load. Run one full discharge to 0% and a complete recharge — this recalibrates the coulomb counter to the new cell and the false cutoffs stop.

Phone warm near the battery during the first few charge cycles

A new cell typically has slightly higher internal impedance than a conditioned one. The charge IC dissipates the excess as heat while it works through the initial CC-CV charge phases. This is normal for the first two to three cycles and reduces as the cell conditions. If the phone stays warm beyond cycle three at the same ambient temperature, check that the charge IC dropped to CV phase correctly — voltage at the terminals should read 4.20V when the current tapers off.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NEC E540 powers off at around 25% battery — did I install the replacement wrong?

The installation is almost certainly fine. What you're seeing is a voltage cliff — the new cell's voltage drops below the shutdown threshold under modem or screen load before the fuel gauge IC expects it, because the IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Run the phone down to 0% until it shuts off on its own, then charge it fully without interruption. After that one complete cycle, the coulomb counter recalibrates to the new cell and the early shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage on my NEC N850 is jumping around erratically after fitting this replacement — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC stores the discharge profile of the old cell and has not yet mapped the new one. Until it completes at least one full discharge-charge cycle, percentage readings will skip or land inaccurately. Let the phone drain fully to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The IC recalibrates during that cycle and the readings stabilise. If jumping continues after two full cycles, check that the battery contacts are fully seated.

My NEC E540 will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

The cell has most likely fallen below 2.5V from self-discharge in storage, which triggers a BMS lockout to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC runs a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold, after which normal charging resumes. If the screen shows nothing after 30 minutes on the wall charger, try a known-good cable and adapter before drawing any other conclusion.
