Fits Nokia Asha 502 smartphones; replaces OEM part number BL-5A.
3.7V at 800mAh capacity delivers enough charge for full-day calling and messaging on this feature phone.
Connector seats flat into the Asha 502 battery slot with no locking tab; slides straight in.
We bench-tested this cell in the Asha 502 charge circuit — BMS accepted input cleanly; no early cutoff on discharge.
On first full charge cycle after installation, let the phone run to shutdown before recharging; the fuel gauge IC needs one complete discharge curve to stop reporting false percentages.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nokia Asha 502 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-5A)

This is a 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Nokia Asha 502. It uses OEM part number BL-5A and fits directly into the Asha 502's battery bay. Capacity is rated at 2.96Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • Asha 502 fit: The BL-5A format is specific to the Asha 502 platform — the connector pinout, physical dimensions (46.10 × 39.80 × 5.20mm), and BMS voltage parameters match what the device's charge IC expects at 3.7V nominal.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Asha 502 platform. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake without fault flags, and the cell held voltage through a full discharge cycle without mid-cycle dropout.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installing this cell, run one full discharge down to auto-shutoff before recharging completely. The Asha 502's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against that first full cycle — skipping it causes the percentage readout to drift.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Asha 502 after a cell swap

A new Li-ion cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the aged cell the fuel gauge IC learned over time. When the Asha 502 reports 25% remaining, the actual cell voltage may already be near the cutoff threshold for the modem and display load. The BMS triggers a hard shutdown to protect the cell before the OS has time to warn you. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by a full charge resets the IC's reference curve and eliminates most of these early shutdowns.

Phone warm near the battery compartment on first charge

A new cell arrives with higher internal impedance than a conditioned one. The Asha 502's charge IC pushes current into that higher-impedance cell at the same rate it used with the old battery, which generates more heat during the first few charge cycles. This is expected behaviour and not a fault in the cell or the device. After two to three full charge cycles, internal impedance drops and the warmth resolves — check that the back cover seats flush so heat can dissipate normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Asha 502 showing the wrong battery percentage after I put in the new BL-5A?

The fuel gauge IC in the Asha 502 builds its percentage model against the discharge curve of the previous cell. A fresh BL-5A has a different curve, so the stored calibration data no longer maps accurately to real voltage. Run the phone down to automatic shutoff, then charge it fully in one uninterrupted session. That single complete cycle gives the coulomb counter enough data to recalibrate against the new cell.

My Asha 502 won't power on after the new battery sat unused in the phone for a few weeks — what happened?

If the BL-5A cell dropped below roughly 2.5V while sitting in a switched-off phone, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent cell damage. The device won't respond to the power button because the protection circuit is blocking discharge until the cell is trickle-charged back above the recovery threshold. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything — the charge IC will detect the low-voltage cell and feed it a low-current pre-charge pulse to bring it back above 3.0V before switching to normal charge rate.

The percentage on my Asha 502 jumps around erratically — sometimes it goes from 60% straight to 15% with no warning. Is the battery faulty?

Erratic percentage jumps are almost always a fuel gauge IC issue, not a defective cell. The IC is still referencing old discharge data and loses track of the actual state of charge when the cell voltage moves through a region the old curve didn't predict. We see this consistently on the first two cycles after a cell replacement. Perform one complete discharge to auto-shutoff followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the coulomb counter will stabilise — if jumping continues after three full cycles, check that the battery contacts on the phone are clean and making firm contact.
