Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Olympus E3 / E5 / E30 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EA-BLM5 / BLM-5)
This is a 7.4V, 1600mAh Li-ion replacement for the Olympus EA-BLM5 / BLM-5 battery. It fits the Olympus E3, E5, and E30 digital SLR cameras. Use it as a direct swap when the original cell no longer holds charge, or carry it as a spare during extended shoots.
- E3, E5, and E30 compatibility: All three bodies share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and 7.4V supply rail. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across this generation of Olympus Four Thirds DSLRs, so one cell works across all three without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the E3 body. The BMS accepted the cell without error, reported state-of-charge correctly after one full charge cycle, and maintained stable output voltage under continuous burst shooting load.
- First-use charge cycle on the E3, E5, or E30: Insert the new cell and run a full charge through the OEM charger or the camera body before shooting. Some Olympus Four Thirds bodies need this cycle to calibrate the battery-remaining indicator — skipping it can cause the bar display to read inaccurately from the first shot.
Why the E3 battery indicator drops sharply in cold conditions
Li-ion cells show elevated internal resistance below 10°C. On the E3, the battery management circuit reads this resistance rise as a voltage sag and reports a lower state of charge than the cell actually holds. The indicator can jump from two bars to zero without warning, then recover once the body warms up. Keep the spare cell in an inner jacket pocket between shots — body heat is enough to keep internal resistance in the normal operating range.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the display after fitting a new cell
The Olympus E-series indicator maps voltage thresholds to its bar segments using data from the original discharge curve. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve until the BMS has logged a full cycle. This causes the display to remap mid-shoot — you may see the indicator drop two segments, then recover. Run one full charge-to-empty cycle through the camera body. After that cycle, the indicator stabilises and tracks the actual remaining charge accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Olympus E3 is showing a dead battery symbol even though I just charged the EA-BLM5 replacement — what's wrong?
The E3 BMS runs an authentication and voltage check on first install. If the cell hasn't completed a full charge cycle inside the OEM charger or camera body, the body can reject or misread it. Insert the battery, connect the OEM charger, and let it run a full charge from flat to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, re-insert the cell — the dead battery symbol should clear and the indicator will read correctly.
The flash on my E30 isn't recycling fast enough between shots with the new battery — is that a battery problem?
Yes, this is a cell draw issue, not a flash unit fault. The flash capacitor pulls a sharp recharge current after each pop, and if the cell's internal resistance is elevated — either because it's new and uncycled, or cold — voltage sags briefly and the capacitor takes longer to reach full charge. Run one full charge cycle to let the BMS calibrate, and keep the body above 10°C during shooting. If the recycling lag persists after two full cycles, measure resting voltage — a fully charged 7.4V Li-ion cell should read between 8.2V and 8.4V at rest.
My shot count on the E5 is noticeably lower than what Olympus rates — why?
The rated shot count is based on CIPA test conditions: 50% flash use, no live view, moderate ambient temperature. On the E5, enabling live view, continuous autofocus, or in-body stabilisation adds sustained draw that the CIPA figure doesn't account for. Flash capacitor recharging alone can add 30–40% to the total current draw per shot cycle. Check which features are active during your shoot and turn off live view when shooting in single-frame mode — that single change reduces draw more than any other setting on this body.
