Fits Panasonic HDC-SD9, HDC-HS9, HDC-SD5, HDC-SD1 and 32 additional models; replaces OEM part numbers VW-VBG070, VW-VBG070-K, VW-VBG070A.
Delivers 7.4V and 750mAh capacity across 5.55Wh — enough for extended video recording and playback before requiring a recharge cycle.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with the locking tab facing outward; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We ran full discharge and recharge cycles on the HDC-SD9 body; the BMS accepted the cell without authentication errors and held voltage curve steady throughout discharge.
On first use with the HDC-SD9, charge fully in the camera body before heavy video work — the Panasonic firmware requires one charge cycle from the device to map the new cell's capacity to the battery-remaining display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic HDC-SD9 / HDC-HS9 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (VW-VBG070)

This 7.4V, 750mAh (5.55Wh) lithium-ion cell replaces the OEM VW-VBG070 battery in Panasonic HDC-series camcorders. It fits the HDC-SD9, HDC-HS9, HDC-SD5, HDC-SD1, and over 32 additional models in the same family. The cell matches the original voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol.

  • HDC-SD9 / HDC-HS9 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay, voltage rail, and three-pin BMS handshake. One cell covers the full range without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on an HDC-SD9 body. The BMS handshake completed on first connection, and the camera reported battery status without error flags.
  • First charge cycle on the HDC-SD9: Run the first full charge inside the camcorder body or the OEM charger — not a third-party multi-bay unit. Some HDC-series bodies require an in-body charge cycle before the battery-remaining indicator maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.

Why the HDC-SD9 shows a dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

The HDC-SD9 maps its battery-remaining display against a stored voltage-threshold curve calibrated to the original cell. A new replacement cell has a slightly different discharge curve, especially in the mid-range. The camera reads a voltage point on the new curve and maps it to the wrong percentage on the old one. One full in-body charge cycle from zero lets the BMS re-calibrate against the new cell and the indicator corrects itself.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the HDC-SD9 display

Erratic percentage readings happen when the camera's fuel gauge loses its reference point — usually after a swap from a deeply discharged original cell to a new one. The BMS hasn't yet mapped the new cell's resting voltage to a reliable state-of-charge estimate. Discharge the replacement cell fully in the camera, then charge it to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, the percentage display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HDC-SD9 shows "no battery" or flashes the battery icon immediately after I insert the new cell — is it faulty?

The HDC-SD9 BMS runs an authentication check on insertion and can reject an unrecognised cell on first contact if the handshake times out. Remove the battery, reinsert it firmly so all three pins seat fully, then power the camera on. If the error persists, place the cell in the OEM charger until the charge light confirms contact — one completed charge cycle clears the authentication flag in most cases.

The shot count on my HDC-SD9 is noticeably lower than the spec suggests — what's drawing the extra current?

The HDC-SD9 runs optical image stabilisation, continuous autofocus, and the LCD panel simultaneously during recording — all drawing current on top of the sensor and processor load. That combined draw pulls the cell down faster than a static shot-count spec implies. In cold conditions below 10°C, internal cell resistance rises further and reduces available capacity. Keep the body warm between takes and turn off the LCD preview when not actively framing a shot to reduce the draw.

The HDC-SD9 cuts out during recording even though the battery indicator showed charge remaining — what causes that?

The camera's low-voltage cutoff triggers when cell voltage drops below a threshold under load, even if the resting voltage looked acceptable. A cell that has aged — or a new cell that hasn't been cycled yet — shows a higher resting voltage than it can sustain under the recording draw. The result is a sudden shutdown with charge still shown on the indicator. Charge the cell fully, record until the camera shuts off naturally, then recharge to 100% — after one full discharge cycle the BMS cutoff and the indicator align to the cell's actual capacity.
