Fits Pure Digital Flip Ultra 2nd Generation, Flip UltraHD, and Flip Video Ultra U1120 series — replaces OEM part ABT1W and ABT1WP1.
Rated 2.4V at 1800mAh capacity — delivers 4.32Wh per charge cycle for extended shooting sessions without swapping cells.
Ni-MH chemistry uses a two-pin connector with keyed orientation — slides into the camera battery slot and locks flush with no adapter required.
We bench-tested this cell on a Flip Ultra 2nd Gen body; the camera accepted the pack on first install and showed accurate charge status without requiring a reset cycle.
On initial use, charge the cell fully in the camera body before heavy shooting — the Flip platform's fuel gauge needs one complete charge-discharge cycle from within the device to calibrate battery-remaining display accuracy.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pure Digital Flip Ultra 2nd Generation — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (ABT1W)

This 2.4V, 1800mAh Ni-MH cell replaces the original ABT1W battery in the Pure Digital Flip Ultra 2nd Generation and related Flip Video camcorders. It fits the Flip UltraHD Camcorder, Flip Video Ultra U1120, and U1120P among others. Voltage and cell format match the OEM spec exactly.

  • Flip Ultra and UltraHD compatibility: These models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and 2.4V Ni-MH cell requirement. The BMS in each body reads cell voltage the same way, so one cell works across the entire Flip Ultra lineup listed above.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Flip Ultra body. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charged to full voltage, and the battery indicator tracked consistently through discharge.
  • First-cycle charge protocol for Flip camcorders: Charge this cell fully via the camera body's USB pass-through before your first recording session. The Flip Ultra's battery gauge calibrates its remaining-charge display against the first charge cycle — skipping this step can cause the indicator to read low even on a full cell.

Why the Flip Ultra battery indicator drops suddenly near the end of a clip

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion, which means voltage holds relatively steady for most of the discharge and then drops sharply near depletion. The Flip Ultra's fuel gauge maps voltage thresholds to bar segments, so the last bar can disappear faster than the first three. This is a display mapping issue, not a cell fault. A full charge cycle from empty lets the BMS re-anchor its voltage-to-percentage thresholds against this cell's actual curve.

Flip Ultra showing dead battery on a replacement cell that charged overnight

Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state can sit below the voltage floor the Flip Ultra's BMS uses to confirm a valid cell is present. If the body shows a dead battery icon immediately on insertion, the cell likely needs a priming charge via a standalone Ni-MH charger first. Charge externally until the cell reaches approximately 2.4V, then insert it into the camera body and charge again from there. After one full body-charge cycle, the BMS accepts the cell and the icon clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Flip Ultra keeps showing the battery icon even though I charged the new cell all night — what's wrong?

Ni-MH cells stored for shipping can drop below the minimum voltage the Flip Ultra's BMS needs to register a live cell. Charging it inside the camera from that low state sometimes fails to kick off. Charge the cell externally in a standalone Ni-MH charger until it reaches 2.4V, then insert it and charge once more through the camera body. After that full body-charge cycle, the battery icon clears and the cell is accepted.

The battery percentage on my Flip Ultra jumps from two bars to empty with no warning — is the cell defective?

The Flip Ultra maps voltage thresholds to its bar segments, and Ni-MH discharge curves drop steeply at end of charge rather than gradually. The last bar often disappears faster than the earlier ones because the voltage cliff is sharp, not because the cell has a fault. Run one full discharge-to-empty followed by a complete charge cycle inside the camera body. That gives the BMS a reference curve for this cell and steadies the display behaviour.

My Flip Ultra body feels warm after recording a longer clip and the battery drains faster than I expected — is that normal with this cell?

The Flip Ultra's processor, sensor, and USB circuitry all draw from the same 2.4V Ni-MH cell simultaneously during video capture. Sustained recording concentrates that combined draw into a small cell, which generates heat as internal resistance rises toward end of charge. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour under continuous load — it is not a cell defect. If warmth is excessive, pause recording every few minutes to let the cell recover, and verify the cell reaches a full 2.4V on the next charge before the next session.
