Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Quasar 500VM-505 / VM Series — 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Quasar camcorder and camera models including the 500VM-505, VM-55, VM-100, and VM-110VM, among others. It slots into the same battery compartment as the original cell and connects to the same charging circuit. Capacity is rated at 12.6Wh.

  • VM series compatibility: The 500VM-505, VM-55, VM-100, and VM-110VM all run the same 6V battery rail with an identical connector footprint. One cell fits across the range because Quasar standardised voltage and form factor across this camcorder line.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a 6V Ni-MH compatible charger. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and terminal voltage held steady through mid-discharge before the expected Ni-MH voltage drop at end of cycle.
  • First-use charge cycle on Quasar VM bodies: Ni-MH cells in this voltage class can read inaccurately on the camera's battery indicator until the BMS maps the discharge curve. Run one complete charge cycle through the OEM charger or camera body before your first shoot to calibrate the indicator correctly.

Battery indicator stuck at full or jumping erratically on Quasar VM camcorders

Quasar VM-series bodies use a voltage-threshold map to estimate remaining charge. Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than the original cell the BMS was tuned for, so the indicator can read full for extended periods then drop suddenly. This is a firmware-side estimation issue, not a fault with the cell itself. After two or three full charge-discharge cycles, the indicator typically stabilises and tracks more accurately through the discharge range.

Camera body shows dead battery on a new cell straight out of the packaging

Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state — often below 5.5V — which can trigger the low-battery cutoff on Quasar VM bodies before the camera even powers on. The fix is straightforward: place the cell in the charger first and bring it to a full charge before inserting it into the camera. Once the cell reaches the 6V nominal range, the body will power on and accept it normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Quasar VM-55 shows the battery indicator jumping from half to empty within a few minutes of recording — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. Quasar VM-series bodies estimate remaining charge by mapping terminal voltage to a lookup table, and a fresh Ni-MH cell's discharge curve doesn't always match that table until it's been cycled. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the OEM charger and the erratic readings usually settle. If it still drops suddenly after three full cycles, check that the battery contacts in the compartment are clean and making firm contact.

The new battery loses charge noticeably faster when shooting outdoors in cold weather — what's happening?

Ni-MH chemistry is sensitive to temperature. At or below 10°C, internal resistance in the cell rises and usable capacity can drop by 20–30% compared to room temperature performance. This isn't a defect — it affects all Ni-MH cells including the original. Keep the camera body inside a jacket pocket between shots to retain heat in the cell, and expect shorter shooting sessions below freezing.

After sitting unused for a few weeks, the Quasar VM-100 won't power on even though the battery was fully charged before storage — why?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day at room temperature, so a cell left for three to four weeks can drop below the camera body's minimum startup voltage. Insert the cell into the charger and bring it back to full charge before trying to power the camera on. If the cell has dropped below 4.5V and the charger shows no activity, try a charger with a recovery or trickle-start mode to reinitiate the charge cycle.
