Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sepura STP8000 / STS8000 Series — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (300-00635)
This 7.4V 1880mAh Li-Polymer pack replaces the original Sepura battery across the STP8000, STS8000, STP8038, STP8030, and more than 26 additional STP/STS variants. It matches the OEM voltage rail and BMS profile required by Sepura's TETRA portable radio platform. Capacity is 1880mAh (13.91Wh) — matching the standard-capacity factory specification.
- STP/STS platform compatibility: All listed STP8000 and STS8000 variants share the same 7.4V power rail, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol. That shared architecture means one battery covers the full range without modification or adapter.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and transmit-load discharge on STP8000 hardware. The BMS held stable across PTT bursts, and charge acceptance on the Sepura desktop charger completed without fault indication.
- First insertion on the Sepura dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The STP8000 dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the STP8000 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted battery
TETRA radios draw a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed — the transmit burst can pull well above the radio's standby draw in under a millisecond. If the replacement pack arrives at storage voltage (typically around 3.7V per cell), the BMS may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the protection circuit before the radio completes the transmission. This is not a faulty pack. Charge the battery fully on the Sepura dock before first use in the field — the BMS resets once cells reach the full 8.4V charge threshold.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this pack
The STP8000 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a calculated capacity. A new cell shipped at storage voltage reads in a lower band and displays one fewer bar than a fully charged pack. This is normal and not a sign of low capacity. Charge the pack fully on the Sepura dock and the indicator will step up to the correct level once resting voltage settles above the top threshold, typically 8.2V or above.

Frequently Asked Questions
The STP8000 drops to reduced transmit power partway through a shift — is this the battery?
Yes, this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As cell voltage drops under repeated TETRA transmit bursts, the radio's power management steps down TX power to stay within the battery's delivery range. It is not a fault in the radio or the pack — it is the cell reaching the lower end of its usable voltage window. If it happens early in a shift, the pack likely was not fully charged before deployment; charge to full (8.4V) and the issue moves toward end of shift where it belongs.
The Sepura desktop dock blinks an amber fault light and never starts charging — what's happening?
The STP8000 dock checks for a minimum cell voltage before it accepts a pack for charging. If a battery has been sitting unused for several months, cell voltage may have dropped below the dock's acceptance threshold. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip clean with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly — a dirty contact can mimic a low-voltage rejection. If the fault light persists after reseating, connect the pack to a compatible Sepura multi-unit charger that includes a recovery or boost mode to bring the cells back above the acceptance floor of approximately 6.0V.
Radio powers on fine but the pack feels warm after just a short transmission session — is that normal?
Some surface warmth during TETRA operation is normal — the transmit current spikes generate heat in both the radio and the pack. The concern is heat that continues building after PTT is released or that makes the pack uncomfortable to hold. That pattern points to elevated internal impedance, which can happen if the pack was stored fully depleted for an extended period. Run two full charge-discharge cycles on the Sepura dock; if the pack still runs hot after that, the cells have not recovered from deep discharge and the pack should be replaced.
