Replaces Sharp BT-H11 and BT-H11U batteries for VL-AH50S, VL-AH1510, VL-AH131E, and VL-AH1500 camcorders.
3.6V nominal, 3800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 13.68Wh total energy for extended recording and playback sessions.
Connector slides straight into the camera battery slot with positive contact facing the spring terminal and locking tab engaging on the left side.
We bench tested this cell across multiple charge cycles in a Sharp BC-4M charger — the BMS accepted full voltage without cutoff and delivered stable output under sustained draw.
On first insertion into the VL-AH50S, charge the battery fully in the camera body itself rather than an external charger so the camera's fuel gauge learns the new cell's discharge curve and reports remaining capacity accurately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sharp VL-AH50S Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BT-H11)

This is a 3.6V, 3800mAh Ni-MH replacement for the Sharp BT-H11 and BT-H11U battery packs. It fits the VL-AH50S, VL-AH1510, VL-AH131E, VL-AH1500, and over 140 additional Sharp camcorder models. Capacity is rated at 13.68Wh — matching the original specification.

  • VL-AH series compatibility: These Sharp camcorders share a common 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH battery bay with the same connector pinout and BMS communication protocol. The BT-H11 format covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on VL-AH series hardware. The BMS accepted the pack without error flags, and voltage held steady across both record and playback loads.
  • First charge on Ni-MH cells: Ni-MH chemistry benefits from a full charge cycle completed inside the camera body or OEM charger on first use. This allows the camcorder's charge controller to baseline the cell and display accurate remaining capacity.

Why the VL-AH50S battery indicator reads empty on a freshly charged cell

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than lithium-based chemistries. The Sharp VL-AH series maps its battery indicator against voltage thresholds tuned to the original cell's discharge profile. A new replacement cell may sit at a slightly different resting voltage after its first charge, causing the indicator to misread. After one full charge-to-discharge cycle inside the camera, the indicator typically re-aligns with the cell's actual capacity.

Camcorder cuts to low-battery warning during recording but recovers on standby

This happens when sustained video recording draws more current than the camcorder's low-voltage threshold allows. The combined load of the image sensor, LCD, and tape or recording mechanism pulls the cell voltage down temporarily under load. When the camera idles, the cell voltage recovers and the warning clears. If the behaviour repeats within the first few cycles, complete two full charge-discharge cycles — Ni-MH cells reach stable capacity after conditioning, not straight from storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

The VL-AH50S shows a dead battery icon the moment I insert the new pack — is the cell faulty?

It is not faulty. The Sharp VL-AH series reads cell voltage at insertion, and a new Ni-MH cell shipped in partial storage charge often sits below the camera's minimum display threshold. Place the battery in the OEM charger or charge it fully inside the camera body before powering on. After one complete charge cycle the camera should recognise the cell and display a normal battery level.

My VL-AH1510 battery percentage jumps around erratically during recording — it dropped from 80% to 20% in seconds.

The jump is a voltage-threshold mapping issue, not a defective cell. Ni-MH discharge curves are non-linear, and the camera's indicator firmware maps specific voltage steps to percentage brackets. A new cell's discharge curve can differ slightly from the worn original, causing the display to skip brackets under load. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera and the indicator calibration will stabilise against the new cell's actual curve.

The replacement pack seems to deplete faster in cold weather than the old battery did at full capacity — is that normal for this chemistry?

Yes, and it is specific to Ni-MH. Electrochemical reaction rates in Ni-MH cells slow significantly below 10°C, reducing available capacity without any fault in the cell itself. The original pack showed the same behaviour when it was new — it just became less noticeable as overall capacity faded. Keep the battery in an inside pocket before shooting in cold conditions and insert it just before recording to retain cell temperature above 10°C.
