Fits Stabo Freecomm 850 portable transceiver; replaces OEM battery part number ICP083448.
3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers full transmit power and sustained talk time on this compact two-way radio.
Connector slides straight into the radio battery slot with a single locking tab; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this cell in the Freecomm 850 under PTT load cycles; BMS accepted dock voltage handshake immediately on first insertion.
On first charge with the Stabo dock, if the charger LED stays amber after three minutes, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip dry with a cloth, then reseat firmly — the radio platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Stabo Freecomm 850 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ICP083448)

This 3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the OEM pack in the Stabo Freecomm 850 portable two-way radio. It matches the original ICP083448 specification and fits the Freecomm 850 battery compartment directly. Dimensions are 47.00 × 40.00 × 10.10mm — confirm against your existing pack before ordering.

  • Freecomm 850 fit: The Freecomm 850 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-Polymer architecture with a low-current BMS sized for voice-burst TX loads. Any replacement must match that voltage rail exactly — a cell even 0.1V higher at full charge will trip the radio's internal protection circuit on first PTT press.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated PTT bursts to confirm the BMS handles the transmit current spike without tripping into overcurrent lockout. The protection circuit held stable across sustained transmission sequences.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the Freecomm 850 charger shows a fault indicator after inserting this pack, remove it, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.

Why the Freecomm 850 drops to low TX power mid-shift on a new pack

New Li-Polymer cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.75V — not full charge. Under sustained RF output, that lower starting voltage sags further under transmit load. The Freecomm 850 interprets the sag as a weak pack and throttles TX power to protect the RF stage. A full charge cycle before first use brings the cell to 4.2V and eliminates this behaviour.

Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new ICP083448

The Freecomm 850 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads cell voltage directly, not stored charge data. A new pack at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged cell, so the radio displays one fewer bar even though the pack is not faulty. Charge the pack fully in the dock until the charge LED goes green, then recheck the indicator. At 4.2V the display will show the correct bar count.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Freecomm 850 cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the new battery tripping out?

Yes — this is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed. It usually happens when the cell is at storage voltage rather than full charge, because low cell voltage pushes current draw higher to maintain RF output. Charge the pack fully before first use. If it still trips after a full charge, clean the gold contact strip and reseat the battery to ensure a solid BMS handshake.

The charger dock blinks a fault pattern and never starts charging — what's wrong?

The dock fault pattern means the charger cannot complete a BMS handshake with the new pack. This happens most often because the gold contacts on the battery or dock have oxidation or debris breaking the signal path. Remove the pack, wipe both the battery contact strip and the dock pins with a dry cloth, and reinsert firmly. If the fault clears, charging will begin normally within a few seconds.

After leaving the new pack unused for a few weeks, the Freecomm 850 won't power on at all — is it dead?

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — the protection circuit will lock out to prevent damage. Place the pack in the charger dock and leave it for at least 30 minutes without interruption. Most docks apply a low-rate recovery charge that brings the cell back above the 2.5V threshold, after which normal charging resumes.
