Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard EVX-Z61 / EVX-Z69 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-V143LI)
This is a 7.4V, 2200mAh lithium-ion battery pack built to the FNB-V143LI specification. It fits the Vertex Standard EVX-Z61 and EVX-Z69 portable two-way radios. Voltage and connector match the OEM pack exactly, and the BMS communicates correctly with the radio's charge management circuit.
- EVX-Z61 and EVX-Z69 platform compatibility: Both radios share the same 7.4V battery bay, contact geometry, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both units without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the EVX-Z61 platform. The BMS held correct over-current cutoff during simulated PTT transmit spikes and re-engaged cleanly after cooldown.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock LED flashes fault on first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. The Vertex Standard platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new FNB-V143LI
New lithium-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. The EVX-Z61 reads pack voltage against fixed thresholds to display its bar indicator, so a cell at storage voltage will show one or two bars short of full even though the pack is not faulty. Charge the pack fully in the dock before drawing any conclusion about capacity. After a complete charge cycle, the indicator should read at the top threshold for a 7.4V pack.
EVX-Z61 cuts out mid-transmission on a new pack
When PTT is pressed, the radio draws a sharp current spike to drive the RF output stage — this can briefly exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold if the pack is cold or has not yet completed a full charge cycle. The BMS trips the output and the radio drops mid-transmission. Let the pack reach a full charge first, and allow it to reach ambient temperature before use in cold environments. If the cutout persists after a full charge cycle, check that the contact strip is fully seated — a high-resistance contact will amplify the voltage drop under transmit load and trigger the same BMS response.

Frequently Asked Questions
My EVX-Z61 charger dock is showing a fault LED and never clears — is the new FNB-V143LI pack defective?
Not necessarily. A new pack arriving below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold will trigger a fault LED that doesn't self-clear. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip clean with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. If the fault persists, the pack voltage may be below the dock's recovery floor — use a compatible wall charger at 8.4V to bring it above the acceptance threshold before returning it to the dock.
The EVX-Z61 drops to reduced TX power partway through a long shift — what causes that on a new battery?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load. As transmit cycles accumulate, cell voltage dips under the sustained current draw, and the radio's power management circuit steps down TX output to protect the RF stage. It is not a faulty pack — it is the BMS and radio firmware doing their job. Allow the pack a full rest cycle between heavy-use shifts, and ensure the contact strip is clean so resistance at the terminal does not add to the effective voltage drop.
The FNB-V143LI pack was stored for a few months unused and the EVX-Z61 won't recognise it at all now — how do I recover it?
Extended storage can push individual cells below the BMS re-initialisation threshold, causing the BMS to lock out the pack entirely. Place the pack in the dock and leave it undisturbed for 15–20 minutes — some Vertex Standard chargers will attempt a trickle pre-charge to bring the pack above the recovery floor. If the dock shows no response, check that cell voltage at the contact terminals reads at least 6.0V with a multimeter; below that, the BMS is in deep-discharge lockout and the pack should be replaced.
