Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard FT-60 / FT-60R Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-57)
This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the FNB-57 and compatible packs in the Vertex Standard FT-60 and FT-60R handheld two-way radios. It also covers the FNB-64, FNB-83, FNB-V57, FNB-V67Li, FNB-V83, FNB-V94, and related variants under the same platform. Voltage and cell format match the original pack exactly.
- FT-60 platform compatibility: The FT-60, FT-60R, FT60, and FT60R share the same 7.4V voltage rail, battery connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one cell pack covers all variants. The radio's firmware reads pack voltage through the same contact points across the entire run of these models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on an FT-60R dock and verified the BMS accepted the handshake on first insertion without a fault LED. Transmit current spikes during PTT press registered within spec — the BMS did not trip.
- First-insertion contact check: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The FT-60 platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the FT-60R cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
The FT-60R draws a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed — RF output demands significantly more current than standby. If the replacement pack shipped at storage voltage (typically around 3.7V per cell), the BMS may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the protection circuit. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack fully before the first transmission-heavy use and the BMS will recalibrate its overcurrent threshold to normal operating conditions.
Bar indicator showing fewer bars than expected after inserting a new pack
The FT-60 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads cell voltage directly and maps it to bar segments. A new pack at storage voltage (around 3.6–3.8V per cell) will display one or two bars even though the cell is not depleted. This is normal behaviour, not a capacity fault. Charge the battery to full (the dock LED turns green at approximately 8.4V pack voltage) and the bar display will read correctly from the first use.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FT-60R drops to low TX power partway through a shift — is that the battery or the radio?
That's voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a radio fault. As cell voltage drops under repeated transmit loads, the FT-60R's power amplifier reduces output to stay within its operating range. The new pack at 2200mAh has more headroom than a degraded original, but it still needs a full charge before the first high-demand shift. Charge to green on the dock (pack voltage at approximately 8.4V) before use.
The charger dock fault LED came on after I inserted the new battery and it never cleared — what do I do?
The dock is rejecting the BMS handshake, usually because the contact strip isn't making clean contact or the cell arrived below the dock's minimum acceptance voltage. Remove the pack, wipe the three gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, connect the pack to a compatible external Li-ion charger at 7.4V to bring cell voltage above 7.0V, then return it to the dock.
This battery sat in a drawer for several months before I used it — now the radio powers on for a moment then shuts off. Is it dead?
Extended storage can push Li-ion cells below the BMS recovery threshold, causing the protection circuit to lock out before the radio can draw a full load. Place the pack on the FT-60 dock and watch the indicator — if it shows a charge LED at all, leave it for a full uninterrupted cycle. If the dock shows no activity, use an external Li-ion charger set to 7.4V to apply a recovery charge until pack voltage reaches at least 7.0V, then transfer to the dock for a normal full charge.
