Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HiFiMAN R2R2000 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AEC103550)
This 3.7V, 1700mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original AEC103550 battery inside the HiFiMAN R2R2000 portable amplifier. It restores the unit's ability to drive high-impedance headphones away from a wall outlet. Dimensions are 49.20 × 33.50 × 10.20mm — measure your existing cell before ordering if you are unsure.
- R2R2000 cell matching: The R2R2000 runs a discrete R-2R ladder DAC stage alongside its amplifier circuit — both draw from the same cell. A cell with mismatched internal resistance will sag under that combined load, producing audible distortion before the battery gauge moves. AEC103550 specifies the correct impedance profile for this dual-load architecture.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the R2R2000's charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without a protection-trip fault. Charge termination occurred cleanly at 4.2V with no thermal anomaly.
- First-cycle current draw on the R2R2000: Run the amplifier at 50% volume for the first full charge cycle. Full-volume operation on an uncalibrated cell draws peak current from both the DAC and amp stages simultaneously — this can trigger a premature BMS cutoff before the cell reaches its rated 1700mAh delivery capacity.
Amp shutting off before the battery indicator reaches empty
The R2R2000's protection circuit cuts power when cell voltage drops below its minimum threshold — this floor sits higher than the display's empty indicator. When a degraded cell sags quickly under load, the amplifier trips that voltage floor while the gauge still shows charge remaining. A fresh cell holds voltage flat longer under the combined DAC and output stage current draw. If shutdown happens repeatedly on a new cell, verify charge termination voltage reached 4.2V on the previous cycle.
Clipping and distortion at moderate volume on a new battery
Clipping at moderate listening levels on a freshly installed cell usually points to voltage sag, not gain or source issues. The R2R2000's output stage needs a stable rail — if the cell's internal resistance is elevated, instantaneous current demand during transient peaks pulls the rail voltage down, and the amp clips before it runs out of headroom on paper. This is most obvious on low-impedance headphones that pull more current per watt. Charge the cell fully to 4.2V, then retest at the same volume setting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my R2R2000 drain noticeably faster when I switch to high gain?
High gain increases the output stage's current draw directly — the amplifier delivers more power per signal swing, and that extra power comes from the battery. On the R2R2000's discrete R-2R architecture, the DAC stage current stays roughly constant, so the amplifier stage is entirely responsible for the additional drain at high gain. This is expected behaviour, not a fault with the cell. If drain at high gain seems excessive even on a new battery, confirm the cell charged fully to 4.2V before use.
The R2R2000 feels warm during extended listening sessions — is that a battery problem?
Some warmth is normal. The amplifier stage dissipates heat as efficiency losses, and the lithium-polymer cell adds a small amount of discharge heat on top of that. If the unit becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, check whether the cell is bulging — a swollen lithium-polymer cell has elevated internal resistance and generates more heat under the same load. Replace the cell immediately if any swelling is visible and stop using the device until you do.
My R2R2000 won't power on even though it was fully charged before storage — what happened?
Lithium-polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell dropped below approximately 3.0V while sitting unused, the BMS may have entered deep-discharge lockout to protect the cell. Plug the R2R2000 into its charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes without attempting to power it on — most chargers apply a low pre-charge current that can bring the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold. If the device still won't respond after 30 minutes of charge, the cell has likely dropped below recoverable voltage and needs replacement.
