Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol PDT8100 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DT-5023BAT)
This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Symbol PDT8100, PDT8134, PDT8137, PDT8140, and over 40 additional PDT8100-series handheld barcode scanners. It matches OEM part numbers DT-5023BAT, DT-5024LBAT, CA50601-1000, and 21-58236-01. Physical dimensions are 57.23 × 37.00 × 12.68mm — confirm your pack matches before installing.
- PDT8100-series compatibility: The PDT8134, PDT8137, and PDT8140 share the same 3.7V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol as the base PDT8100. One pack covers the full hardware family without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the PDT8100 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without a protection-trip fault, charge termination completed normally, and the scanner powered up cleanly on all test units.
- First-shift preparation — PDT8100 cradle cycle: After installing, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. The scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell sits near minimum state of charge — a fully charged cell prevents a false BMS cutoff on the first heavy burst of the day.
Cradle showing a charging error on a brand-new pack
A new Li-ion cell ships at partial state of charge — typically around 40–60%. Some PDT8100 cradles interpret the low initial voltage as a fault condition and display a charging error rather than beginning a normal charge cycle. The fix is almost always contact-related: the gold pogo pins on the cradle and the corresponding contacts on the battery pack accumulate oxidation and handling residue. Wipe both sets of contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the cradle should transition to a normal charge state within 30 seconds.
Scanner dropping its wireless connection during a rapid scan burst
The PDT8100 draws current simultaneously from the laser or imager, the decode processor, and the 802.11b radio during a fast scan sequence. That combined inrush can pull cell voltage below the BMS low-voltage threshold for a fraction of a second, which forces the radio stack to reset and drop the access point association. This is more pronounced when the battery is below 30% charge. Keep the pack above that level during active picking shifts — charge the scanner in the cradle during any break longer than a few minutes to stay clear of the threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PDT8100 scanner won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — did I get a bad pack?
Not likely a bad pack. The laser and imager on the PDT8100 need the cell at a reasonable state of charge before the optical module receives enough power to fire reliably — a fresh pack shipped at partial charge can sit just under that threshold. Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using it, then test. If the scanner still fails to read after a full charge, check that the scan window is clean and undamaged.
The scanner feels noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is that a battery problem?
Warmth during an extended shift is normal on the PDT8100 because the laser, decode processor, and wireless radio all run inside a compact sealed housing with limited airflow. The battery itself contributes heat during sustained discharge, but the housing concentrates it. If the unit becomes too hot to hold comfortably, that points to a higher-than-normal discharge rate — check that the wireless polling interval is not set to continuous and that no background app is keeping the scanner active between scans.
This replacement battery seems to run out faster than my old one did — why is the shift endurance shorter?
Two factors drive this on the PDT8100: scan burst frequency and wireless polling rate together. If your picking workflow has increased — more scans per hour, tighter wireless coverage requiring higher transmit power — the draw per shift is higher than when the original pack was new. Also confirm the replacement is fully charged before the shift starts; a partial charge reads as low endurance. Charge to full in the cradle overnight and track whether endurance improves before concluding the capacity is low.
