Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Telxon PTC860 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (TEL-860)
This is a 4.8V, 2500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Telxon PTC860 barcode scanner family. It fits the PTC860, PTC860DS, PTC860-II, and PTC860ES handheld scanners used in retail, warehouse, and logistics operations. Voltage and connector match the original pack exactly.
- PTC860 family compatibility: The PTC860, PTC860DS, PTC860-II, and PTC860ES share the same 4.8V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers all four variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a PTC860 unit, monitoring BMS response across scan-trigger inrush events. The protection circuit held voltage within spec and did not trip during burst scanning sequences.
- First-shift prep on the cradle: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a complete charge cycle before pulling it for pick-and-pack work. Scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — starting the shift with a full cell prevents false BMS trips during the first hour of use.
Cradle showing a charging error on a brand-new pack
A new Ni-MH pack arrives in a partially discharged state. Some PTC860 cradles read the low initial voltage as a fault and refuse to begin the charge cycle. This is a contact or voltage-threshold issue at the dock, not a defective battery. Wipe the gold contacts on the pack and the cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the cradle should begin charging within 30 seconds — confirmed at 4.2V or above on the pack terminals.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
On the PTC860, the wireless radio and the scan trigger draw current at the same time during a rapid scan sequence. If the cell is aged or sitting below 4.5V, that combined inrush causes a momentary voltage sag the radio interprets as a power loss, dropping the connection mid-session. A fresh, fully charged cell raises the floor voltage enough to handle both loads simultaneously. If dropouts persist on a new pack, check that the battery contacts are clean and the pack is seated without play — loose contact adds resistance and amplifies the sag.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PTC860 scanner stops reading barcodes right after I swap the battery — did I get a dud?
No — this is a low cell voltage issue, not a defective pack. The laser or imager in the PTC860 needs the full 4.8V rail to fire reliably, and a new Ni-MH pack ships partially discharged. Seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before use. After a full charge, the scan trigger should fire consistently from the first pull.
My PTC860 runs noticeably warm after a long warehouse shift — is that a battery problem?
Warmth on an extended shift is normal for this form factor. The PTC860 housing is compact, and the sustained draw from continuous scanning combined with wireless polling generates heat that has limited paths to dissipate. If the unit is hot to the touch rather than warm, check scan frequency and wireless polling interval in the device settings — both can be tuned down without affecting read accuracy. A pack that gets hot while sitting idle in the cradle is a separate issue and means the cell has a short — replace it.
The new battery doesn't seem to last as long per shift as the old one did at its best — what's going on?
Ni-MH cells need two or three full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity after sitting in storage. If you pulled the pack straight from packaging and into a shift, it is running below its 2500mAh ceiling. Run three complete cradle charge cycles with moderate scanner use between each one. After conditioning, if shift endurance is still short, compare your scan burst frequency and wireless polling rate against the original operating profile — those two draws together determine actual capacity consumption more than any other factor.
