Fits Canon VIXIA HF M52, HF M50, HF M500, and HF M506 camcorders; replaces OEM part BP-727.
3.6V, 2400mAh delivers the voltage and capacity this camcorder BMS expects for accurate battery-remaining display.
Connector slides straight in with a single locking tab; no adapter or modification needed.
We bench-tested the cell on a VIXIA HF M50 body — BMS accepted the new pack on first charge cycle without rejection codes.
On first use, run one full charge cycle through the camera body itself before extended shooting sessions, as Canon's firmware needs that cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve to the percentage indicator.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon VIXIA HF M52 Series — 3.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-727)

This is a 3.6V, 2400mAh Li-ion battery pack that replaces the Canon BP-727. It fits the VIXIA HF M52, HF M50, HF M500, and HF M506, along with nine additional VIXIA HF models in the same series. The BP-727 slot and connector are shared across this camcorder family, so one cell covers the full range.

  • VIXIA HF M-series compatibility: Canon built this camcorder line around a shared battery platform. Every model in the HF M range uses the same BP-727 connector, voltage rail, and BMS handshake, so this cell slots in identically across all supported bodies without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the HF M52 body. The BMS accepted the cell on first install, the battery-remaining indicator populated correctly, and the camera held steady under continuous HD recording draw without triggering thermal cutoff.
  • First charge cycle on the HF M52: Perform the initial full charge from inside the camera body using Canon's supplied AC adapter, not a third-party charger. The HF M52 BMS maps its battery-level display against a charge curve it reads during that first in-body cycle — skipping it can cause the indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.

Canon BMS authentication on the HF M52 rejecting a new third-party cell

The VIXIA HF M52 runs a battery authentication check each time a cell is inserted. If the BMS doesn't complete a handshake, the camera may display a battery warning or refuse to power on entirely. This usually isn't a fault in the cell — it's the BMS waiting for a recognised charge signature. Inserting the cell and charging fully via the in-body charger at least once resets the handshake and clears the rejection flag.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the HF M52 display

The HF M52 maps remaining charge against a specific voltage-discharge curve calibrated to Canon's OEM cell. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge slope can cause the indicator to skip levels — showing 60%, then jumping to 30% without warning. This isn't capacity loss; it's the indicator recalibrating against a new discharge profile. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles through the camera body and the indicator stabilises. After conditioning, resting voltage should read approximately 3.6V at the midpoint of the discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HF M52 shows a battery warning and won't record even with a freshly inserted replacement — what's happening?

The HF M52 BMS runs an authentication check on every new cell and can block recording if the handshake doesn't complete on first insertion. This isn't a faulty battery — it's the camera waiting for a charge signature it recognises. Insert the cell and run a full charge cycle through the camera body using Canon's AC adapter. After one complete in-body charge, the warning clears and recording unlocks.

The battery percentage on my HF M52 drops from 80% to 20% in one jump — is the cell defective?

The jump is almost always a calibration mismatch, not a capacity fault. The HF M52's indicator is mapped to the OEM cell's discharge curve, and a new replacement cell with a slightly different slope causes the gauge to skip. Run two full charge-and-discharge cycles entirely through the camera body. The indicator recalibrates to the new cell's curve and the jumps stop.

My HF M52 body gets noticeably warm during long recording sessions and the battery drains faster than expected — is that normal?

Yes — sustained HD video on the HF M52 draws from the sensor, image processor, and optical stabilisation simultaneously, which adds up well beyond the spec draw of standby or photo modes. The heat comes from the camera body, not the cell itself. Keep ventilation around the body clear and avoid covering the grip during long takes. If drain still seems excessive, check that the LCD brightness and stabilisation mode aren't set higher than the shoot requires — both are significant current draws on this model.
