This 3.7V 750mAh (2.78Wh) lithium-ion cell replaces the factory battery in the Rollei Compactline 83 compact digital camera. It powers the image sensor, LCD display, and onboard processing circuitry. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge.

Why the Compactline 83 shuts off mid-use with charge still showing

The camera's fuel gauge reads the cell's open-circuit voltage, not actual remaining capacity. A degraded or new uncalibrated cell can show 40% charge, then drop below the 3.0V cutoff threshold the moment the LCD backlight and image processor load the circuit simultaneously. This is a voltage cliff — the cell cannot sustain current under combined load even though resting voltage appears fine. One full discharge-to-cutoff and full recharge cycle recalibrates the gauge against the new cell's actual discharge curve.

Camera won't power on after the replacement battery was left uncharged in storage

Li-ion cells discharged below approximately 2.5V trigger the protection circuit's lockout state — the BMS disconnects the cell to prevent damage, and the camera sees zero voltage at the contacts. A standard charger may not recover a locked-out cell because it waits for a minimum voltage signal before starting charge current. Connect the battery to a charger that supports a low-voltage recovery or trickle pre-charge mode. Once the cell recovers to around 3.0V, normal charging resumes.

The Compactline 83 turns off suddenly when the screen shows around 30% battery left — is the new cell faulty?

This is a voltage cliff, not a faulty cell. Under the combined load of the LCD and image processor, the cell voltage drops below the camera's 3.0V cutoff faster than the gauge can track. Run one complete discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge. That cycle lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's actual discharge curve, and the shutdowns typically stop after that.

The replacement battery percentage jumps around erratically — it reads 60%, then skips to 20% within a few shots.

The camera's fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. A new cell with different internal resistance behaves differently under load, so the percentage readout loses accuracy. Run two full discharge and charge cycles without interrupting either. After the second cycle, the coulomb counter has enough data from the new cell to track charge state accurately.

The camera doesn't recognise the new battery at all and won't power on — what do you check first?

Start by confirming the contact pins on both the battery and the camera are clean and fully seated — even a slight misalignment on a 4.80mm-thin cell can break the circuit. If contacts look fine, the cell may have discharged below 2.5V during shipping, triggering BMS lockout. Place the battery in a charger that supports trickle or recovery charging and leave it for 20–30 minutes until voltage climbs back above 3.0V, then re-insert and power on.
