This is a 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion replacement for the Samsung BP88A battery cell. It fits the DV200, DV300, DV300F, and DV305 compact camera bodies. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec — the camera's charge indicator and remaining-shot counter work as expected once the cell is accepted by the body's BMS.
- DV200 / DV300 platform fit: These four models share the same BP88A battery bay dimensions, contact pin layout, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS handshake is identical across the range, so one cell SKU covers the full group without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the DV300F body and confirmed the BMS accepted charge from both the camera USB port and a compatible external charger. Discharge curve tracked within spec from full charge to low-battery cutoff at approximately 3.0V.
- First-use charge cycle on the DV series: Run the first full charge from inside the camera body rather than an external cradle. The DV300 and DV300F BMS maps voltage thresholds to the remaining-shots display during this cycle — skipping it can cause the indicator to jump between readings until a body-charged cycle is completed.
Why the DV300F battery percentage jumps on a fresh replacement cell
The DV300F uses a voltage-threshold map to estimate remaining charge rather than a fuel-gauge IC. A new cell's discharge curve differs slightly from a worn OEM cell, so the camera's threshold map can read the same voltage as a different percentage. After one or two full charge-and-shoot cycles inside the body, the displayed percentage stabilises as the BMS recalibrates its reference points. If the jump persists past two cycles, check that the cell contacts are clean and seated flat — a poor contact connection causes voltage-drop spikes that confuse the threshold map.
Camera body shows "no battery" after installing a valid BP88A replacement
Samsung's compact BMS runs a contact-resistance check at power-on. If the replacement cell arrives partially discharged, this check can fail and the body refuses to initialise the cell. Insert the battery and connect the camera to USB power for 10–15 minutes before attempting to power on — this primes the cell voltage above the BMS acceptance threshold, which sits at approximately 3.2V on the DV series. If the "no battery" screen persists after that initial charge, reseat the cell, confirm the gold contacts on both battery and bay are free of debris, then repeat the USB charge step.

We ran this cell on the DV300F body with flash enabled on every shot and saw noticeably higher draw than flash-off test runs. Check your shooting settings: disabling the flash or reducing screen brightness recovers measurable shot count per charge. If the cell still drains unusually fast with flash off, let it complete two full charge cycles in the body before assessing — a new cell's usable range increases after initial cycling.
The flash on my DV200 stopped recycling fully between shots after a few weeks on the replacement battery — what's happening?
Flash capacitor recharge pulls a high current burst from the cell each cycle, and this draw increases as the cell's internal resistance rises toward end-of-life. If you are only a few weeks in, first check whether the cell has been shallow-cycled — repeatedly topping up from 60–80% without full discharges accelerates capacity fade on Li-ion cells used in low-draw camera bodies like the DV200. Run two full discharge-and-charge cycles: shoot until the low-battery warning triggers, then charge to 100% inside the body. If flash recycle time returns to normal, the cell needed conditioning; if it stays slow, check cell voltage at rest — a healthy BP88A should read 3.7V ± 0.05V off-charger.
The DV300 battery drains noticeably faster in cold weather — is this a defective cell or normal behaviour?
This is normal Li-ion behaviour, not a defect. Cold temperatures increase internal resistance in the cell, which reduces the voltage the BMS sees under load and triggers low-battery cutoff earlier than it would at room temperature. The BP88A's 700mAh capacity is rated at room temperature; below 10°C you will see a measurable reduction in usable charge. Keep the camera body inside a jacket pocket between shots to hold the cell closer to operating temperature. When you return to a warm environment, allow the cell to warm to room temperature before charging — charging a cold Li-ion cell can cause lithium plating on the anode, which permanently reduces capacity.
