Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DMW-BCF10)

This is a 3.7V, 940mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the DMW-BCF10 in Panasonic Lumix compact cameras. It fits the DMC-FP8, FP8A, FP8G, FP8K, and over 237 additional Lumix models sharing the same battery bay and connector. Dimensions are 40.96 × 36.50 × 6.70mm — a direct physical match for the original slot.

  • FP8 series and CGA-S009 platform: The DMC-FP8 variants and a wide range of Lumix compacts share the same 3.7V rail, physical form factor, and BMS handshake. That is why one cell — the DMW-BCF10 / CGA-S009 — covers all of them. Voltage tolerance and connector pinout are identical across this group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Lumix body. The BMS accepted the cell without rejection flags, and the protection circuit responded correctly to end-of-discharge cutoff without triggering a false low-battery shutdown at partial capacity.
  • First-install charge cycle on the FP8: Slot the new cell and run one full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. The FP8's battery-remaining indicator calibrates its threshold map during that first cycle — skipping it can cause the indicator to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Flash recycling slowing down mid-shoot on the DMC-FP8

The FP8's built-in flash draws a sharp current spike to recharge its capacitor between shots. As cell voltage drops toward the lower end of the discharge curve, that recharge current sags — the capacitor takes longer to reach full charge. You will notice this as a longer wait between flash-ready confirmations. It is not a camera fault. It is the cell voltage falling below the point where the capacitor circuit pulls peak current efficiently. Swap or charge the battery when flash recycle lag becomes consistent.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the display

The FP8 maps battery percentage using a voltage-threshold table tuned to the original cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell may have a slightly different curve shape — the camera reads voltage correctly but translates it to the wrong percentage step. This is most visible between 40% and 70% displayed charge, where the curve is flattest. After two or three full charge and discharge cycles, the indicator typically stabilises as the cell's curve settles within the expected range. If it remains erratic after three cycles, check that resting voltage after a full charge sits at or above 4.1V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DMC-FP8 shows a dead battery icon immediately after I put in the new cell — is the battery faulty?

Almost always, this is the camera's BMS rejecting an uncharged or partially charged new cell rather than a faulty battery. Place the cell in the OEM charger or charge it inside the camera body until the charge indicator shows full, then power on. One complete charge cycle from the camera body is usually enough for the BMS to accept the cell and clear the rejection flag. If the icon persists after a full charge, check that resting voltage on the cell reads 4.1V or higher with a multimeter.

The shot count on my FP8 is noticeably lower than I expected from a 940mAh cell — what's pulling it down?

Shot count specs are calculated under controlled conditions without continuous flash, optical zoom motor cycling, or extended LCD-on time. On the FP8, each flash discharge, every zoom adjustment, and any prolonged live-view session adds real current draw that the rated shot count does not account for. Cold ambient temperatures also compress the usable capacity of a Li-ion cell, cutting effective charge further. To extend shots per charge, reduce flash frequency and switch the LCD to auto-off where the shooting situation allows.

The FP8 body gets noticeably warm during continuous video recording — is that a battery problem?

Warmth during video is driven by the image sensor, image processor, and stabilisation system all drawing current simultaneously — the load is significantly higher than still shooting. The DMW-BCF10 cell itself generates some heat as it delivers sustained current, and that heat transfers through the small camera body. As long as the camera does not shut down with a temperature warning, the warmth is within normal operating range for this class of compact. If the body shuts down mid-clip, let it cool for five minutes, then check that the battery voltage has not dropped below 3.5V before the shutdown point.
