Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GALEB MP-55LD / DP-50D / DP-500 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P-0262)
This is a 7.4V 2600mAh lithium-ion replacement for the GALEB P-0262 battery. It fits the MP-55LD, DP-50D, and DP-500 cash register terminals. The battery provides mains-failure backup so the register stays live during power outages and disconnections at the wall.
- MP-55LD, DP-50D, and DP-500 compatibility: All three terminals share the same 7.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol, which is why one cell pack covers the full range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the MP-55LD's onboard trickle charger circuit. The BMS accepted the charge profile without tripping overvoltage cutoff, and the cell balanced correctly across both cells under load.
- First-charge procedure for this terminal: After installing the battery, leave the register connected to mains power for 12 hours before testing backup. The MP-55LD uses a low-current trickle charger — it needs that full window to bring a new pack to working capacity before it can sustain the unit through a power loss.
Cash register losing programmed prices after a power outage with a new battery installed
Programmed prices and PLU data on these terminals are held in volatile RAM. That RAM draws power from the backup battery the moment mains drops. If the new battery was installed but not fully charged through the trickle charger first, it may not hold enough voltage to sustain RAM during an outage. The BMS will hard-cut output once the pack drops below approximately 6.0V, and any data in volatile memory is lost instantly at that point. Install the pack, keep the register on mains for 12 hours, then test by pulling the power lead — data should survive.
Display going blank the moment mains power fails
The display and printer on these registers draw significantly more current than RAM backup alone. If the backup battery has degraded or is not at full charge, the voltage sags under that combined load and the display collapses first — usually within a second of mains loss. A healthy, fully charged P-0262 pack should hold the display live without the printer running. Test with the printer idle: if the display stays on, the battery is good but the pack cannot sustain both simultaneously, which is normal. If the display still blanks, measure pack voltage at rest — it should read at least 7.2V before connecting to the terminal.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GALEB MP-55LD keeps losing the time and date every time there's a power cut, even with the new battery in — why?
The real-time clock on these terminals is backed by a separate RTC cell, not the main P-0262 pack. The main battery keeps RAM and the display alive; the RTC runs off a small coin cell on the motherboard. If the time and date reset on every power cut, that coin cell is depleted and needs replacing — swapping the main battery pack will not fix it. Check the register's service manual for the RTC cell location, typically a CR2032.
The backup battery on my DP-50D only lasts a few months before it stops holding any charge — what's killing it?
Continuous trickle charging at the wrong voltage damages lithium-ion cells faster than cycling does. If the register's internal charger circuit has drifted or the terminal was running from a non-standard mains adapter, the trickle voltage may be slightly high — enough to degrade the pack over weeks. Check the mains adapter output matches the terminal's rated input before fitting a new pack. A healthy P-0262 cell should read between 7.2V and 7.4V at rest after a full trickle charge.
After a power outage the register came back on but the receipt printer jammed and now the display flickers whenever mains drops — is this the battery or the printer?
A jammed printer during a power event creates a sudden current spike that can cause the backup battery's BMS to trip into protection mode. When the BMS trips, output becomes intermittent — which explains the display flickering on subsequent outages. Clear the printer jam fully, then power cycle the register on mains to allow the BMS to reset. After that, leave the register on mains for 12 hours and retest; if flickering continues, measure pack voltage at rest — anything below 7.0V means the pack needs replacement.
