Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP Presario CQ50 / CQ60 / CQ70 — 3V Lithium CMOS Backup Battery (417076-001)
This is the 3V lithium coin cell that backs the CMOS circuit and real-time clock on HP Presario and Pavilion motherboards. It fits the Presario CQ50, CQ60, CQ70, Pavilion DV2000, and 890+ additional HP notebook models. Capacity is 200mAh (0.6Wh), matching the original HP part number 417076-001.
- CQ50 / CQ60 / CQ70 / DV2000 platform fit: These models share the same motherboard connector footprint and CMOS retention circuit. The cell dimensions are 20.00 × 20.00 × 3.80mm — the contact spring and board clearance are matched to this profile across the entire CQ and DV2000 series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We seated this cell on a CQ60 board and measured open-circuit voltage at 3.0V. The CMOS circuit held BIOS settings and RTC data through repeated mains disconnections with no checksum errors triggered.
- Post-installation BIOS step: After fitting the new cell, enter BIOS immediately and set the correct date and time, then save and exit. The RTC circuit powers down to minimum retention state during the swap, and the clock defaults to a fixed date — it will not self-correct. Skipping this step causes timestamp errors in the OS and may trigger repeated boot warnings.
BIOS clock resetting to 2000 after every power cycle on the CQ50
The CQ50 RTC circuit requires a minimum of 2.8V from the CMOS cell to retain the clock value when mains power is absent. Once the original cell drops below that threshold, the clock resets to a factory default — typically January 1, 2000 — on every cold boot. This happens even if the laptop otherwise functions normally on AC power, because the main battery and AC adapter do not supply the RTC rail when the system is fully off. Replacing the coin cell and resetting the clock in BIOS resolves it permanently.
CMOS checksum error on boot after fitting a new coin cell
A checksum error on first boot after a cell swap means the CMOS SRAM lost all stored values during the replacement — the contents are now invalid and the BIOS flags the mismatch. This is expected behaviour, not a fault with the new cell. Press F1 or F2 (whichever your CQ model prompts) to enter BIOS setup, reload defaults, set the correct date and time, and save. The error will not return as long as the new cell holds above 2.8V retention voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HP Presario CQ60 keeps showing the wrong date every time I unplug it overnight — why doesn't the new CMOS battery fix it?
Check that the cell is fully seated and the contact spring is making clean contact — an oxidised or bent spring drops the delivered voltage below the 2.8V retention threshold even with a fresh cell installed. Also confirm you saved the correct date in BIOS after fitting it; the RTC does not self-correct after a swap. Pull the cell, clean the spring contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the cell, then re-enter BIOS and save the date again.
The coin cell I just installed on my Presario CQ50 reads under 3V on a multimeter — is it faulty?
No. Lithium coin cells ship at a storage voltage that can read between 2.95V and 3.0V under no-load conditions; voltage rises to a stable 3.0V once the cell is under the light continuous draw of the CMOS circuit. Measure voltage again after the cell has been seated on the board for 10–15 minutes and you will see it stabilise at 3.0V.
My CQ70 loses all BIOS settings — not just the clock — every time I remove the AC adapter. What's happening?
The CMOS SRAM that stores all BIOS settings, including boot order and hardware configuration, is backed entirely by the coin cell when mains power is absent. If the cell is below 2.8V, the SRAM loses power and all stored values are wiped — not just the RTC. Replace the coin cell (HP part 417076-001), boot into BIOS, reload your preferred settings, set the date and time, and save before exiting.
