Fits AudioVox AT22R cordless telephone handset; replaces OEM battery pack for this model.
4.8V and 1300mAh capacity restores talk and standby time on the AT22R handset between charging cycles.
Connector slides into handset battery compartment with positive and negative terminals aligned; no locking tab.
We bench tested this NiMH pack on an AT22R base station; voltage settled at 4.8V after initial charge.
Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cells in cordless phones need slow charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AudioVox AT22R — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 4.8V 1300mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the AudioVox AT22R cordless phone handset. It slots directly into the handset battery compartment and restores full talk and standby function. Voltage and cell count match the original pack specification.

  • AT22R handset compatibility: The AT22R runs on a 4.8V rail with a four-cell Ni-MH configuration. This pack matches that voltage and the physical footprint at 56.50 x 50.38 x 14.56mm, so the compartment door closes correctly and the contacts align.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on Ni-MH test equipment. The BMS accepted charge current normally, and cell balance held across all four cells without voltage deviation at cutoff.
  • First charge on AT22R handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base cradle for a full 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH packs ship partially discharged, and the AT22R base charges at a slow trickle rate — a short first charge will not bring cells to rated capacity.

Base station showing no charge or error light on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH packs lose voltage during storage and shipping. If the pack voltage drops low enough, the AT22R base station's charge detection circuit may not recognise it as a valid battery. The base looks for a voltage response in a specific window when it first applies charge current. A pack sitting below roughly 3.6V total may not trigger that window, so the base shows no charge activity or an error indicator instead of a charge light.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity until they have been through three to five full charge and discharge cycles. A new pack will feel weaker than the old original in the first few uses — that is normal cell conditioning, not a fault. Run the handset until the low-battery alert sounds, then return it to the base for a full charge. Repeat this three to five times and capacity will stabilise at the 1300mAh rating.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AT22R handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their handset-to-base registration when power is fully removed during a battery swap. The AT22R stores pairing data in a small capacitor-backed register that clears if the handset sits without power too long. Re-register the handset using the base station's Find/Register button — the process is in the AT22R user guide and takes under two minutes. Once paired, the handset will behave normally and retain the pairing through future battery swaps as long as the new pack holds charge.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This points to a seating issue, not a battery fault. The AT22R base charges through metal contacts on the handset base, and if the handset is tilted or slightly off-centre, those contacts do not complete the circuit. Lift the handset out, check that no debris is on the charge contacts, and reseat it firmly until it sits level in the cradle. Confirm the charge indicator light activates — if it does not illuminate within 30 seconds of seating, reposition the handset until it does.

Range dropped noticeably after installing the new battery — calls cut out further from the base than before.

Reduced range after a battery swap is usually a voltage sag issue in the first few charge cycles. The AT22R's transmit circuit draws a surge of current during each radio burst, and a partially conditioned Ni-MH pack sags under that load, dropping the voltage below the threshold the transmitter needs to maintain full output power. Run three to five full discharge-and-charge cycles to condition the cells. After conditioning, the pack holds voltage more firmly under RF load and range returns to normal.
