Fits Grundig D780 and D780A cordless phone handsets; replaces original 3.7V lithium-ion battery.
3.7V and 500mAh capacity delivers full talk and standby time on DECT base station range; matched to handset power circuit.
Battery connector aligns vertically into handset slot with single retention tab; no polarity reversal possible on this form factor.
We bench-tested this cell in a D780 handset; BMS showed normal voltage regulation under transmit load with no early cutoff.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — DECT phones need slow charge to register new cell on the pairing protocol.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Grundig D780 / D780A — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V 500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Grundig D780 and D780A cordless DECT handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless operation when the original cell has degraded. Voltage and form factor match the original: 44.20 × 29.94 × 4.35mm.

  • D780 and D780A compatibility: Both models use the same handset chassis, battery bay dimensions, and 3.7V power rail — one cell covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a D780 handset. The BMS accepted the pack without fault flags, and the base station showed a normal charge indicator throughout.
  • First-charge protocol for Li-ion cordless handsets: After fitting this battery, seat the handset in the base and leave it on charge for a full cycle before taking a call. Li-ion cells shipped in storage state may read a low voltage that causes the handset display to show a near-empty indicator until the first full charge completes.

Why the D780 handset shows low battery immediately after fitting a new cell

Li-ion cells are stored and shipped at roughly 40–50% charge to protect cell chemistry during transit. When the D780 reads this voltage on boot, it maps it to the lower end of its fuel gauge and displays one or two bars. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Place the handset in the base, let it charge fully, and the display will recalibrate to show accurate capacity. If the indicator still reads low after a complete charge, check that the base contacts are clean and making firm connection with the handset terminals.

D780 losing range or dropping calls shortly after a battery swap

DECT transmit circuitry draws a short burst of higher current each time the handset communicates with the base. If the replacement cell has a high internal resistance — common in cells that have sat unused for a long time — voltage sags under that RF load and the handset can briefly lose sync with the base. The fix is to run two or three full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cell and lower its internal resistance. After cycling, test the handset at the edge of its normal range; a healthy 3.7V cell should hold above 3.5V under transmit load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Grundig D780 talk time is much shorter than it used to be — will a new battery fix this?

Yes, if the original battery is the cause. Li-ion cells lose capacity permanently after two to three years of daily cycling — the original 500mAh cell may be delivering well under half that. Fit the replacement, run a full charge from the base, then use the handset until it signals low battery before recharging. Repeat that cycle two or three times and talk time will stabilise at the cell's rated capacity.

The base station on my D780 won't show a charge light after I installed the replacement battery — what's wrong?

The most common cause is the handset not seating fully in the cradle, so the charge contacts aren't touching. Remove the handset, check the gold contacts on both the base and handset for dirt or oxidation, wipe them with a dry cloth, and reseat the handset firmly. If the charge light still doesn't appear, measure the base output pins — they should read around 6V DC. A base that reads zero has a separate power supply fault unrelated to the battery.

My D780 handset lost its pairing with the base after I changed the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts power completely, and some DECT handsets clear their pairing registration when power drops to zero. Re-register the handset from the base station menu — on most Grundig DECT bases this means holding the paging or register button on the base for three seconds until it enters pairing mode, then selecting "register handset" from the handset menu. The process takes under a minute and does not require a factory reset of either unit.
