Fits Panasonic KX-A940 cordless phone handsets, also compatible with 950 and 960 models.
3.6V Ni-MH chemistry delivers 1200mAh capacity — restores original talk time and standby duration on aging handsets.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with fixed orientation; no locking tab to clear or adjust.
We bench tested this pack on a KX-A940 base station — BMS accepted voltage threshold immediately, no fault cycles.
After installation, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH batteries require this slow first charge to condition and reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hi-Tel 940 / 950 / 960 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Hi-Tel 940, 950, and 960 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and powers both talk and standby functions. Voltage and cell count match the original pack exactly.

  • 940, 950, and 960 handset fit: These three models share the same battery bay dimensions, cell voltage, and connector pinout. All three run a single 3-cell Ni-MH pack at 3.6V, so one battery works across the range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge on a KX-A940-class handset. The base station accepted the charge handshake on the first cycle, and the BMS held voltage within spec under sustained RF transmit load.
  • First-cycle charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing this battery, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in a partial state of charge need a slow, full conditioning cycle to reach their rated 1200mAh capacity. Skipping this step is the most common reason a new replacement appears to underperform the original.

Base station showing no charge light after fitting a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH batteries drop to around 3.0V or below during long storage. Some DECT base stations use a minimum voltage threshold to detect a valid battery before they begin charging. If the pack arrives too depleted, the base reads it as absent or faulty and shows no charge indicator. The fix is to measure the open-circuit voltage across the battery terminals — if it reads below 3.2V, the base may not engage. A brief trickle charge from a compatible external charger at around 60mA for 30 minutes is usually enough to bring the pack above the acceptance threshold, after which the base will take over normally.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after a battery swap

A freshly installed Ni-MH pack that hasn't been through a full conditioning cycle has reduced charge capacity and a softer voltage curve. Under the RF transmit load of a DECT call, pack voltage sags faster than usual, causing the handset's transmit power to pull back. The result is noticeably shorter range, especially at the edges of the coverage area. Run three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles through the base station first — by cycle four, the cells reach near-rated capacity and the voltage sag under RF load normalises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My replacement battery runs out much faster than the original — is it faulty?

Not likely. Ni-MH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, a 1200mAh pack may deliver noticeably less than that — this is a chemistry characteristic, not a defect. Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge, use it until the handset signals low battery, then repeat the full charge. By cycle four or five, talk time should match or exceed the original battery's current performance.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets store pairing data in volatile memory that clears when power is fully removed. Fitting a new battery counts as a full power interruption. Re-register the handset through the base station menu — on most Panasonic-compatible DECT systems this means pressing and holding the registration button on the base for around three seconds, then confirming on the handset. Consult the handset's pairing sequence in the original manual and complete registration before attempting any calls.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what causes this?

This is almost always a seating issue. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base cradle, the charging contacts don't make a clean connection and the handset runs on battery rather than charging. Check that the handset sits flush in the base with no gap, and confirm the charge indicator light activates when placed in the cradle. If the light flickers or doesn't appear, clean the metal contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cotton swab, then reseat the handset firmly.
