Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with single locking tab engagement point.
We bench-tested this cell on Sony base station charge circuits — BMS accepted full voltage within two charge cycles.
After installing, place the handset in base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony 5822 / 5823 / 5829 / 5845 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Sony cordless phone handsets across the 5822, 5823, 5829, and 5845 series, plus over 43 additional compatible models. It replaces the original handset battery when the pack no longer holds a charge. The cell dimensions are 45.90 x 31.20 x 10.70mm — a direct physical match for the handset battery compartment.

  • 5800-series handset compatibility: These Sony cordless models share a common 3.6V NiMH battery bay, identical connector orientation, and the same three-cell configuration across the platform. One battery SKU covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a 5822 handset base station. The BMS accepted charge immediately, the base charge indicator lit correctly, and the handset registered full signal within the first conditioning cycle.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing the new pack, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones reach rated capacity only after a slow, uninterrupted initial charge — skipping this step leaves the pack permanently under-conditioned.

Base station showing no charge light after fitting a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries sitting in storage can drop to voltages the base station's charge circuit won't initially recognise. The base expects a cell voltage above a minimum threshold before it begins the charge cycle. A pack below that threshold looks like an absent or faulty battery to the base. Place the handset in the base for 30 minutes — most Sony base stations will begin trickle-charging even a deeply discharged pack and the charge indicator will activate once the cell climbs above approximately 3.0V.

Talk time shorter than expected for the first few uses

NiMH cells require three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — this is normal cell chemistry, not a fault with the battery. During early cycles the electrodes have not yet fully activated, so usable capacity reads lower than the 700mAh spec. Run the handset until it prompts a low battery warning, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat. By cycle five, talk time should stabilise at the rated level.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sony 5822 handset pairs fine but loses range within a few metres of the base after a battery swap — what's causing that?

NiMH voltage sags under the RF transmit load a DECT handset draws, especially in the first few charge cycles before the pack is conditioned. When voltage drops, transmit power drops with it, and range collapses. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles first — range typically stabilises once the pack reliably holds above 3.6V under load. If range stays short after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seated in the base during each charge.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I fitted the new battery — do I need to register it again?

Yes. Some Sony DECT handsets drop their pairing data when power is completely removed from the handset — this is a known behaviour, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the base station's paging or registration button, typically held for three seconds until the base beeps. Refer to the model's manual for the exact button sequence; on the 5822 series it is the FIND HANDSET button on the base held for five seconds.

The new battery drains overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — is something wrong?

A handset draining overnight while in the base is almost always a seating issue — the charging contacts on the handset or base are not making a clean connection, so the handset runs on battery rather than base power. Remove the handset, wipe both sets of charging contacts with a dry cloth, then firmly reseat the handset until you hear or feel it click into position. Confirm the charge indicator light activates within 30 seconds of reseating.
