Fits Telrad 3040 cordless phone handsets, replaces OEM battery 3.6V Ni-MH pack.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers rated capacity for full talk and standby time on DECT base stations.
Connector slides into vertical battery slot on handset back; locking tab seats flush against housing contact strip.
We bench-tested voltage ramp on a Telrad 3040 base station — BMS accepted the cell without error codes, charge light engaged immediately.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Telrad 3040 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery for the Telrad 3040 cordless telephone handset. It replaces the original cell when the handset no longer holds charge or drops calls due to voltage sag. Dimensions are 45.00 × 31.10 × 10.50mm — confirm against your current cell before ordering.

  • Telrad 3040 handset fit: The 3040 handset runs a single-cell 3.6V Ni-MH pack at this exact footprint. The connector orientation and cell dimensions match the original bay, so no modification is needed to seat the pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH-compatible test rig. The cell accepted a full charge without thermal runaway and held voltage above 3.3V through the discharge curve.
  • First-charge conditioning on Ni-MH handsets: After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH cells in cordless phones are shipped in a partially discharged state. Skipping this step leaves capacity on the table for the first several cycles.

Base station showing no charge light after fitting new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH cells stored for months can drop below 3.0V. Some Telrad base stations look for a minimum voltage on the charge contacts before starting the charge cycle — if the cell arrives too depleted, the base reads it as absent or faulty and shows no charge indicator. The fix is a brief trickle charge using a standalone Ni-MH charger to bring the cell above the acceptance threshold. Once the pack reaches approximately 3.2V, reseat the handset in the base and the charge light should activate normally.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few charges

Ni-MH cells do not deliver rated capacity from cycle one. The 700mAh rating is reached after three to five full charge-discharge cycles — this is normal electrochemical behaviour, not a defect. Each full cycle builds crystalline structure in the cell and increases usable capacity incrementally. Run three complete discharge-and-recharge cycles with the handset used until it prompts a low-battery warning, then returned to the base for a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Telrad 3040 handset lost its pairing to the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens the moment the old battery comes out. The handset memory that stores the base station link is volatile on certain 3040 units. Re-register the handset using the pairing sequence in your base station manual — typically holding the page or register button on the base for five seconds, then confirming on the handset. Once paired, the handset should connect within 30 seconds.

The Telrad 3040 handset is draining flat overnight even though it's sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a faulty cell. The base station charges through spring contacts on the handset cradle, and if the handset is not fully pressed down, the circuit stays open and the battery continues to draw standby current without recharging. Remove the handset, wipe the charge contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, then reseat it firmly until you hear or feel the click. Check that the charge indicator light activates within 30 seconds of reseating.

The Telrad 3040 is losing range and breaking up — could the new battery be the cause?

Yes. The DECT transmitter in the 3040 handset draws a surge of current during transmission, and a Ni-MH cell that hasn't been conditioned yet can't sustain voltage under that RF load. The voltage sags, the transmitter power drops, and range shrinks. This is most common in the first one to three cycles on a new cell. Run the handset through two or three full discharge-and-recharge cycles and check whether range recovers — a conditioned cell holds above 3.3V under transmit load, which restores normal RF output.
