This is a 3.6V, 800mAh Ni-MH battery that fits the Uniden DCT6465, DCT6485, DCT7488, and DCX640 cordless phone handsets. It replaces OEM parts BBTY0457001, BBTY0458001, and BT-446. When your original battery no longer holds a charge, this pack restores the handset to full working order.

  • DCT6465 / DCT7488 handset family: These models share a common 3.6V three-cell NiMH form factor with the same connector orientation and BMS handshake. One pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the DCT6465 handset. The base station accepted the battery without charging errors, and the BMS held stable across repeated cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: Place the handset in the base immediately after installing the battery and leave it for a full 16 hours before use. NiMH cells in cordless phones require this slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it will result in shorter talk time that does not improve on its own.

Range dropping after fitting a new NiMH pack

The DCT6465 transmitter draws a short burst of higher current each time it communicates with the base station. A new or under-conditioned NiMH pack can sag in voltage during that burst, causing the handset to reduce transmit power or drop the connection. This is not a fault with the handset or the base. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles and the internal resistance of the cells will fall, reducing voltage sag under RF load. Range should stabilise by cycle four.

Base station shows no charge light after battery swap

NiMH batteries can sit in storage long enough for cell voltage to drop below the threshold the Uniden base uses to detect a valid pack. When voltage is too low, the base does not start the charge cycle and the charge indicator stays off. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — sometimes one cycle of re-detection is enough. If the light stays off, the pack needs a voltage bump: place the handset in the base, wait 30 minutes, then remove and reseat it. At that point the base should read the pack above its acceptance threshold and begin charging normally.

My DCT6465 talk time is much shorter than the original battery — is this pack faulty?

It is not faulty. New NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and take three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. After each cycle, measured talk time increases noticeably. Complete the 16-hour first charge in the base, use the handset until it needs charging, then repeat — by cycle five the pack should be performing at its rated 800mAh.

The handset lost its pairing with the base station after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones store pairing data in volatile memory. When power is restored the handset no longer recognises the base. Re-register the handset using the pairing or registration button on the base station — on most Uniden DECT models this is a small recessed button held for three seconds until the base light flashes. Check your handset manual for the exact sequence, as it varies between the DCT6465 and DCX640 models.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what is causing this?

The base only charges when the handset is fully and correctly seated — the charging contacts on the handset must touch the pins in the cradle. A slight tilt or debris on the contacts breaks the circuit and the handset runs on battery standby draw all night. Clean the charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light comes on within 30 seconds of placing it in the cradle.
