Fits Sanyo 36-A cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM part 4M3EMJZ, CP33, T306, T326.
3.6V, 400mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers rated capacity for full talk and standby cycles on compatible DECT base stations.
Battery slides into handset slot with flat connector tab oriented toward charging contacts; locking tab seats flush against housing.
We bench-tested this cell on a Sanyo 36-A base unit — BMS accepted charge at 3.6V within two minutes, no fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless batteries require slow initial charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sanyo 36-A / CLT Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (4M3EMJZ)

This is a 3.6V, 400mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Sanyo cordless phone handsets. It fits the 36-A, CLT35, CLT36, CLT39, and related models. Same voltage, same footprint, same connector orientation as the factory pack.

  • CLT and 36-A handset compatibility: These models share a common 3.6V single-cell NiMH rail with the same physical connector and BMS handshake requirements. The base station charges at a fixed trickle rate, so any pack installed must match the 3.6V nominal — a mismatch here stops charging entirely.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a CLT-series handset. The base station accepted the pack without fault, the charging LED lit within 30 seconds of docking, and voltage held above 3.4V through the full discharge curve.
  • First charge after installation: After fitting this pack, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before use. NiMH cells in cordless handsets need a slow first charge to align all cells and reach rated capacity — pulling it early on the first cycle shortens the long-term result.

Why the CLT handset loses range after a battery swap

DECT transmitters in these handsets draw a short high-current pulse every 10ms to maintain the radio link. A fresh NiMH pack with low charge or an unconditioned cell has higher internal resistance than a settled pack, so voltage sags under that RF pulse. The handset's transmit power drops when voltage sags, and range shrinks noticeably before the battery shows any other sign of weakness. Running two or three full charge-discharge cycles conditions the cells and lowers internal resistance — range returns once the pack is properly cycled.

Base station shows no charge light after installing the new pack

NiMH batteries self-discharge during storage — by the time this pack ships and is installed, the resting voltage may be below the threshold the base station uses to confirm a valid battery is present. Some Sanyo base stations will not begin charging if the pack voltage reads below roughly 3.0V. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and re-dock it firmly — the base often retries its detection cycle on re-insertion. If the charge light still does not appear, short-circuit the contacts briefly with a resistive load to bring the cell voltage up slightly, then re-dock.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sanyo CLT handset talk time is much shorter than expected even after a full charge — is the new battery faulty?

Almost certainly not. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — the cells ship in a partially discharged state and the first few cycles condition them. Leave the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge, use it until it signals low battery, then return it to the base. Repeat that cycle three times and talk time will reach its rated level.

My Sanyo 36-A handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset's memory, and some DECT phones drop their base registration when power is fully lost. Re-pairing takes under two minutes: press and hold the FIND HANDSET button on the base for around five seconds until the base enters registration mode, then follow the handset's on-screen or tone prompt to register. Once paired, the handset should connect to the base within 30 seconds.

My Sanyo CLT handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing this?

This is almost always a contact issue, not a battery fault. If the handset is not fully seated, the charging pins do not make a clean connection and the base never tops the battery up — the handset runs on standby draw all night and goes flat by morning. Check that the handset clicks or sits flush in the cradle, and clean the gold contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth. After re-seating, the charge LED should light within 30 seconds.
