Fits Toshiba BT-311, FD-4809, FD-9839, FD-9859 cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM part numbers TBR-8000 and TRB-1981.
This 3.6V Ni-MH cell delivers 1300mAh capacity, restoring full handset runtime and transmit range on DECT base stations without voltage sag.
Connector is a two-pin inline jack; slides into the battery compartment with the contact edge facing the spring-loaded terminals and locks flush.
We cycled this pack through five charge-discharge runs on a Toshiba FD-series base station; the BMS accepted voltage immediately and held steady under talk load.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Toshiba BT-311 / FD-9859 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (TBR-8000)

This is a 3.6V, 1300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Toshiba cordless phone handsets. It fits the BT-311, FD-4809, FD-9839, FD-9859, and over 33 additional Toshiba DECT models. OEM part numbers TBR-8000 and TRB-1981 both reference this cell configuration.

  • BT-311 and FD-series handset compatibility: These models share a common 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack format with the same connector pinout and physical envelope. The base station charges via the same contact rail across the range, so one cell spec covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Toshiba FD-series handset. The BMS accepted charge from the base station on the first dock, and voltage held stable across the RF transmit window without sagging below the handset's low-battery cutoff threshold.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before using it. NiMH cells in storage arrive partially discharged — a slow first charge lets the cells reach full rated capacity before the handset's charge controller switches to trickle mode.

Why talk time stays short for the first few uses after a battery swap

NiMH cells don't deliver full rated capacity on cycle one. The chemistry needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cells reach their 1300mAh rating. If talk time feels short immediately after installation, that's expected — it's not a faulty pack. Run the handset down fully and recharge it completely for each of the first few cycles, and capacity will build each time.

Base station charge light not activating after new battery is seated

A NiMH pack that has been sitting in storage can drop to a voltage the base station's charge controller reads as a fault condition rather than a depleted cell. The base expects to see a voltage above its acceptance threshold before it opens the charge circuit. If the charge indicator doesn't activate within two minutes of docking, remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and re-seat it firmly. If the light still doesn't come on, check that the charge contacts on both the handset and base are clean — a thin layer of oxidation on either contact is enough to break the circuit at low NiMH voltages.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Toshiba handset loses range near the edges of my house — could the new battery be causing that?

Yes, and it's a known NiMH behaviour on DECT handsets. When a NiMH cell drops below around 3.3V under RF transmit load, the handset reduces output power to protect the radio circuit — this shows up as range loss, not a dead battery. It usually means the pack hasn't been fully conditioned yet. Run three or four full charge-discharge cycles and the voltage sag under load will decrease as cell capacity builds.

The base station was charging fine, but overnight the handset shows nearly dead by morning — why?

This is a standby draw issue, not a charging fault. If the handset isn't fully seated on the base contacts, it draws from the battery without topping back up through the charge rail. Check that the handset clicks or sits flush in the cradle — even a slight tilt can break contact. Clean the charge contacts on the base and handset with a dry cloth, re-seat the unit, and confirm the charge indicator activates.

My Toshiba handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix that?

Some Toshiba DECT handsets store the base station pairing in volatile memory that clears when power is fully removed. Fitting a new battery counts as a full power cycle. Re-register the handset using the pairing button on the base unit — on most Toshiba FD-series models, hold the page/find button on the base for five seconds until the registration tone sounds, then follow the handset menu to locate and register the base.
