SportDog YardTrainer YT-100 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SDT54-16718)
This 3.7V, 190mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the SportDog YardTrainer YT-100 and YT-100S training collars. It fits the collar receiver units (SDT54-16683 and SDT54-16684) that handle remote stimulation signals during obedience training sessions. Dimensions are 25.90 × 20.50 × 5.30mm — measure your existing cell before ordering.
- YT-100 and YT-100S collar fit: Both collar variants share the same receiver housing, connector pinout, and BMS handshake, so one cell covers the full YT-100 platform without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the YT-100 receiver board. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and charge termination triggered cleanly at 4.2V.
- First-use activation on the collar: After installing, power on the collar and place it outdoors for a full re-pairing cycle with the remote — the receiver resets its communication link after a power interruption and needs an active signal exchange to confirm pairing before training.
Why the YT-100 collar stops responding mid-session after a battery swap
The YT-100 receiver uses a low-voltage cutoff in the 3.4–3.5V range. A cell with even moderate capacity fade can sag below that threshold under the brief current spike of a stimulation pulse, causing the collar to cut out without warning. A fresh 190mAh cell holds voltage more consistently under pulse load. If cutouts continue after fitting a new cell, check that the connector is fully seated — a partial connection adds resistance and makes sag worse.
Collar not pairing to the remote after installing a new battery
A full power interruption clears the receiver's active pairing state. The collar does not automatically re-establish the link just because it powers on. You need to run the manual pairing sequence — hold the pairing button on the remote until the collar LED confirms the link. Check your transmitter is within 10 feet during this step, as the initial handshake uses a lower power signal than normal operating range.

The YT-100 collar LED flashes like it's charging but the battery never reads full — what's happening?
This usually means the old cell has dropped so low that the charger is stuck in trickle-recovery mode, trying to bring the cell voltage up before switching to full charge current. A severely depleted Li-Polymer cell can sit in that state for hours or fail to recover entirely. Fit the new SDT54-16718 cell and charge it fresh — the charger should step up to normal current within a few minutes and terminate cleanly at 4.2V. If it still won't complete a charge cycle, the issue is in the charging cradle contacts, not the battery.
The replacement battery drains noticeably faster when training in open fields far from the house — is that normal?
The YT-100 receiver is a radio device, and its transmit power adjusts to maintain signal over longer distances. In open areas with fewer obstructions, the collar can draw more consistently from the battery to maintain the link with the remote. This is normal behaviour, not a cell defect. Keeping the remote within 50–100 yards where the terrain allows will reduce continuous draw on the 190mAh cell during extended sessions.
After putting in the new battery, the stimulation level feels weaker than it used to — same setting on the remote, different result on the collar. Why?
Stimulation output on the YT-100 is voltage-dependent. If the old battery had degraded, users often compensated by pushing the level setting higher. With a full-voltage cell, the same numeric setting on the remote now delivers closer to the original factory output. Drop the stimulation level by one or two steps and retest — the collar is working correctly, the previous setting was compensating for a weak cell running below 3.7V nominal.
