Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Ceag VL8 CGLine / Pro VL8 CGLine — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (400-66-042-067)
This is a 3.6V, 4000mAh Ni-CD replacement battery for the Ceag VL8 CGLine and Pro VL8 CGLine emergency lighting units. It slots directly into the fitting and connects to the existing charge controller. Voltage and capacity match the original cell specified under OEM part number 400-66-042-067.
- VL8 CGLine and Pro VL8 CGLine compatibility: Both variants run the same 3.6V charge rail and use an identical cell bay and connector. A single cell type covers both units because the charge controller voltage threshold and BMS acceptance window are shared across the standard and Pro builds.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure discharge on the VL8 CGLine. The charge controller accepted the cell without fault flags, and the BMS held voltage through the full load period without tripping.
- First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. A freshly installed Ni-CD cell has not yet been conditioned to its rated capacity — running one complete test cycle lets the charge controller register the new cell and sets an accurate baseline before the next scheduled compliance inspection.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A new Ni-CD cell ships in a partially discharged state and does not deliver rated capacity on the first activation. The charge controller in the VL8 CGLine begins float charging immediately after installation, but a single float period does not fully condition the cell. The cell requires one complete discharge-to-cutoff cycle before capacity stabilises at the rated 4000mAh. Run a manual full-duration test within 24 hours of installation — this primes the cell and resolves duration shortfalls before a formal compliance test is logged.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
A Ni-CD cell that has been in storage for several months can sit below the float acceptance threshold the VL8 CGLine charge controller expects to see on connection. If the incoming cell voltage is too low, the controller holds the fault state and the indicator stays red rather than switching to charge or green. Leave the fitting on mains power for at least 12 hours — the controller will detect the rising cell voltage and shift out of fault mode once the cell clears approximately 3.3V. If the indicator has not moved after 24 hours, check the connector seating and confirm mains supply to the fitting.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VL8 CGLine passed its monthly flick test fine but failed the full annual duration test after I put a new battery in — why?
A new Ni-CD cell does not reach its rated 4000mAh capacity until it has completed at least one full discharge cycle. Short flick tests draw so little from the cell that they pass even on an unconditioned battery. The annual test runs the cell hard for the full rated duration, which is where the shortfall shows. Run a complete manual test cycle — hold the test button through the full rated period — within 24 hours of fitting the new cell, and the next duration test will reflect actual rated capacity.
The emergency light dims noticeably after a couple of minutes during a test cycle — is the new cell faulty?
This is a conditioning issue, not a faulty cell. Ni-CD cells that have been in storage self-discharge and arrive with uneven charge distribution across the internal plates. That uneven state causes a voltage sag under sustained load, which the fitting reads as a weak cell and responds to by reducing output. One full charge-then-discharge cycle through the test button evens out the plate charge. After that single conditioning cycle the cell holds voltage flat across the full load period.
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I confirmed the new battery is correctly seated — how do I clear it?
On some Ceag CGLine fittings the fault LED latches and does not self-clear when the fault condition is resolved. The cell may be charging correctly even while the LED stays on. First, leave the fitting on mains for 12 hours to let the charge controller confirm the cell is above the float threshold. Then locate the manual reset button on the fitting's control board — a brief press clears the latched fault state. If no reset button is present, a 30-second mains interruption followed by reconnection forces the controller to re-poll the cell and clears the latch.
