Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Legrand 61884 / 9342819 / H95400 — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (HB00095TA)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-CD replacement battery for the Legrand 61884 emergency lighting unit, also cross-referencing models 9342819 and H95400. It replaces OEM part HB00095TA. The battery powers the fitting during mains failure, supplying backup illumination for evacuation compliance.

  • 61884, 9342819 and H95400 compatibility: All three models share the same 4.8V cell configuration, connector pinout, and charge controller circuit. A single replacement cell services all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and mains-failure simulation. The charge controller accepted the cell, float charge stabilised correctly, and the fitting switched to battery within the expected response window.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting the new cell, hold the test button for the full rated test duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity and confirms the cell accepts a load — critical before any scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

Ni-CD cells shipped from storage often sit at a lower resting voltage than the fitting's float acceptance window expects. When the controller sees an unfamiliar voltage on the terminals, it holds the fault or charge state rather than switching to green. This is not a faulty cell. Leave the fitting on mains power for 24 hours — the controller will complete its charge cycle and the indicator should move to green once the cell reaches approximately 5.4–5.6V fully charged across the four cells.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

A cell that has not completed one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 2000mAh on the first discharge. The output voltage drops below the fitting's low-voltage cutoff sooner than expected, and the light dims or cuts out before the test duration ends. The fix is a 24-hour full charge before the test, followed by one complete discharge cycle. After one full charge-discharge cycle, the cell reaches rated capacity and the fitting will sustain output for the full duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Legrand 61884 just failed its compliance duration test right after I fitted a new HB00095TA cell — what went wrong?

A fresh Ni-CD cell straight from storage has not yet reached its rated 2000mAh capacity. The fitting's charge controller needs one complete charge-discharge cycle before the cell delivers full output. Charge the fitting on mains for a full 24 hours, then run a manual test cycle to completion. After that conditioning cycle, the cell will hold the rated capacity for scheduled compliance tests.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I confirmed the new battery is seated and connected correctly — is the fitting faulty?

Some Legrand fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and do not clear it automatically after a cell replacement. The controller needs a manual reset — remove mains power for 30 seconds, then restore it. If the LED clears within a few minutes of power restoration, the fitting is fine and the new cell is being accepted into the charge cycle.

The replacement cell has been installed for several weeks but the casing feels warm and the cell looks slightly swollen — what caused this?

Continuous trickle charging at elevated ambient temperature — common in recessed ceiling fittings — can cause the charge controller to overcharge a Ni-CD cell over time if the thermal environment was already degrading the old cell. Check that the fitting's charge current is within spec for a 2000mAh Ni-CD cell (typically a C/10 rate, around 200mA maximum). If the swelling is visible, replace the cell immediately and ensure the fitting is in a location with adequate ventilation to keep the ambient temperature below 35°C.
