Fits Schlumberger TU89 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM battery reference for 6V Ni-MH emergency exit light applications.
6V, 2000mAh capacity delivers 12Wh energy for full-duration backup illumination during mains failure without runtime loss.
Connector mates directly into TU89 fitting slot with positive and negative terminals aligned; no adapter needed.
We bench-cycled this cell on a TU89 test rig; the charge controller accepted the new BMS within two charge cycles and showed stable float voltage.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register the new capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Schlumberger TU89 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Schlumberger TU89 emergency lighting unit. It fits directly into the TU89 housing and restores the unit's ability to activate on mains failure. Dimensions are 52.38 x 43.46 x 27.20mm — verify against your existing cell before ordering.

  • TU89 compatibility: The TU89 uses a 6V Ni-MH cell at this form factor. The charge controller in the fitting expects the voltage rise and acceptance curve of a Ni-MH pack — substituting a different chemistry or voltage will cause charge faults or overcharge damage.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load discharge. The BMS accepted charge without flagging a fault, and the cell reached rated capacity after one complete cycle from a depleted state.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load under real conditions and allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Why the TU89 charge indicator stays red after a new battery is fitted

A Ni-MH cell shipped in storage can sit below the float acceptance window that the TU89 charge controller expects. When the controller sees a cell voltage outside its acceptance range, it holds the fault state rather than transitioning to a charge cycle. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge before judging the indicator. If the light remains red past 24 hours, measure the cell voltage directly — it should read above 5.5V at rest to confirm the controller has accepted the pack.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after battery replacement

A cell that has not completed one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated capacity on the first test. The voltage sags under load before the cell has stabilised its electrochemical baseline. This is not a faulty cell — it is a first-cycle behaviour specific to Ni-MH chemistry. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle by performing a full manual test, then allow a full 24-hour recharge before the next compliance test.

Frequently Asked Questions

The TU89 still shows a fault LED after I've fitted the new battery and left it on mains overnight — what's wrong?

Some TU89 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. After confirming the battery is seated and the mains supply is live, locate the manual reset — usually a recessed button or a brief mains-off cycle specified in the fitting's maintenance sheet. If the LED clears after reset and the cell voltage reads above 5.5V, the installation is good.

The emergency light passes the function test but fails the full duration test — the replacement battery looks fine on the indicator.

A green charge indicator confirms the cell is holding a float voltage, not that it has reached full rated capacity. Ni-MH cells need one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach 2000mAh after a period in storage. Run a full manual duration test, then immediately return the fitting to mains for a 24-hour recharge — the following duration test should reflect true rated capacity.

The battery casing looks swollen after being in the TU89 fitting for several months — is this a fitting problem or a cell problem?

Swelling in Ni-MH cells points to continuous overcharge, typically caused by a charge controller that has aged and lost its delta-V cutoff sensitivity. The fitting is delivering trickle current past the point the cell can absorb it safely. Replacing only the cell will reproduce the same result. Check the charge controller output — if trickle voltage exceeds 7.2V across the 6V pack terminals, the fitting's charge circuit needs inspection before fitting a new cell.
