Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

FELCO Electric Pruner — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This listing covers a 24V 5000mAh (120Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the FELCO 82 series electric pruner. FELCO's 82, 82A, 82/101, and 82/82A models are professional-grade cordless pruning tools used in viticulture and arboriculture. Voltage and connector compatibility make this a direct fit across all four variants.

  • 82-series compatibility: The 82, 82A, 82/101, and 82/82A share the same 24V power rail and battery connector housing, so one pack covers all four models without adapter changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge/discharge cycles — the BMS held voltage steady under repeated cutting load and tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
  • First charge on Ni-MH: Run two to three full charge/discharge cycles before heavy use — Ni-MH cells reach rated capacity after conditioning, not straight out of the box.

Why Ni-MH at 24V in a professional pruner

Ni-MH chemistry handles the high-current burst demand of electric pruner blades without the thermal sensitivity of lithium cells. At 120Wh, this pack carries enough capacity for sustained work across a full pruning session. Ni-MH also tolerates partial discharge cycles better than older Ni-Cd packs, so occasional top-up charges won't damage cell balance over time.

Pruner powers on but blade stops mid-cut

This usually means the battery's BMS is tripping under peak load draw — a sign the existing cells have aged past useful capacity. A worn Ni-MH pack loses voltage sharply the moment the motor demands current, triggering the low-voltage cutoff before the cut completes. Swapping in a fresh pack with healthy cells restores consistent blade travel through the full stroke.

Frequently Asked Questions

My FELCO 82 cuts two or three branches then the blades just stop mid-squeeze — battery still shows charged

This is a voltage sag problem, not a capacity problem. Ni-MH cells at 24V drop sharply under the high instantaneous current a power pruner pulls during a cut, and if the cells have aged or been stored discharged, the pack can't hold voltage long enough to complete the stroke. Put a multimeter on the battery terminals while the tool is under load — if you see the voltage dip below roughly 20V mid-cut, the cells are no longer delivering usable current despite showing a resting charge. Fully discharge the pack, then run two or three full charge cycles before retesting.

Charged the replacement battery overnight and it's already warm sitting on the shelf — nothing is plugged in

Ni-MH packs self-discharge faster than lithium chemistry, and a warm battery at rest usually means a cell reversal is happening inside the pack — one or more weak cells are being driven into reverse polarity by the stronger cells around them. This is common in Ni-MH packs that were stored flat for an extended period before installation. Check whether the pack is warm uniformly or hot in one spot; a single hot zone points to a specific cell group failing. Run the battery completely flat on the tool, then do a slow charge — not a fast charge — and check the temperature again at the end of the charge cycle.

The FELCO charger light goes green after an hour but the pruner feels weaker than it did with the old battery — what's wrong

An early green light on a Ni-MH charger usually means the charger detected a false peak — a small voltage plateau that mimics a full charge but leaves the pack at 60–70% capacity. This happens most often with new Ni-MH packs that haven't been conditioned yet. Let the pack discharge fully on the tool until the pruner stops cycling, then charge it uninterrupted without removing it early. After two or three full cycles the cells normalize and the charger's delta-V detection becomes more accurate.
