Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 500 / Zumo 600 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00038-01)
This is a 3.7V, 1880mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Garmin Nuvi 500 portable GPS navigator and the Zumo 600, 650, and 660 motorcycle GPS units. It replaces OEM part numbers 361-00038-01 and 010-11143-00. Fit the battery when the original cell no longer holds a charge through a full navigation session.
- Nuvi 500 and Zumo 600 series fit: These units share the same cell footprint, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS handshake is the same across the range, so one replacement cell covers the full compatibility list without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Nuvi 500 and a Zumo 660. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, the fuel gauge calibrated on the first full charge cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before driving. The unit performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite fix takes 5–10 minutes. Once locked, warm starts on subsequent power-ons drop under a minute.
GPS battery draining faster on active navigation than on standby
Active navigation puts two power loads running simultaneously — the GPS receiver continuously polling satellites and the touchscreen backlight at operating brightness. Standby or menu use drops the receiver to a low-power polling interval and often dims the display. On the Nuvi 500, full navigation mode draws noticeably more current than any other operating state. If drain seems faster than expected, lower screen brightness one step; it is the single biggest variable in overall power consumption on this unit.
Nuvi 500 shuts off without a low-battery warning
The on-screen battery indicator on the Nuvi 500 is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new or replacement cell may discharge slightly differently in the lower voltage range, causing the unit to hit the hard cutoff threshold before the visual warning triggers. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is a calibration lag. Run two or three full charge and discharge cycles through active navigation and the indicator will re-calibrate to the new cell's curve. After the second full cycle, low-battery warnings should appear at approximately 3.5V as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Garmin Nuvi 500 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes. The Nuvi 500 stores some route and trip data in battery-backed RAM, which loses power completely during a battery swap. Saved favourites stored to internal flash are usually intact, but active routes and recent trip logs are held in volatile memory and will clear on full power removal. After fitting the new cell, re-enter any routes you need — then back your favourites up to a connected PC via Garmin Express to prevent data loss on any future swap.
It's been 10 minutes outside and my Zumo 660 still hasn't locked onto satellites after the battery replacement — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. Any full power interruption forces a cold start, which means the GPS receiver has lost its last known position, time reference, and satellite almanac data. Re-acquiring all three from scratch takes 5–10 minutes with a clear sky view — longer if you're near tall buildings or under tree cover. Stay stationary with the unit powered on and the sky unobstructed; once it completes the first cold-start fix, every subsequent power-on warm start will lock in under a minute.
My Nuvi 500 GPS accuracy seems worse than before at the end of a long drive — what's happening?
Some Garmin units reduce GPS receiver sensitivity when the battery voltage drops below a certain threshold, trading positional accuracy for power conservation to extend operation. If accuracy degrades noticeably toward the end of a trip, the new cell may still be going through its first few calibration cycles and the fuel gauge is cutting receiver power earlier than it should. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles through active navigation use. If reduced accuracy still appears at low battery after that, check that screen brightness is not set to maximum — dropping it one level reduces total draw and delays the point at which the unit begins power-saving the receiver.
