Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan Crossover / 2500T — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (37-00031-001)

This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces part number 37-00031-001 in the Magellan Crossover and 2500T portable GPS navigators. It restores power to the internal battery that runs the GPS receiver, display, and onboard map storage. Capacity is 1800mAh (6.66Wh) — matching the original specification.

  • Crossover and 2500T compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The BMS handshake is identical across the two, so one cell covers both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Crossover platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the charge circuit terminated correctly at full capacity.
  • First-fix satellite acquisition after installation: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors and let it run until it acquires a satellite fix before driving. The device performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts run under a minute once the almanac is cached.

Why the Crossover shuts off without showing a low-battery warning

The Crossover reads state-of-charge from a voltage curve calibrated to the original cell. When a degraded original battery is replaced, the firmware's voltage-to-percentage mapping may be out of sync with the new cell until it completes one full charge cycle. The device can hit its hardware cutoff threshold — typically around 3.0V under load — before the on-screen indicator reaches the warning zone. Run one full charge from flat to 100% after installation to let the display track the actual charge curve accurately.

Saved routes and POIs missing after battery swap

On the Crossover, some user-saved routes and points of interest are held in battery-backed RAM rather than written permanently to flash. Removing the battery cuts power to that memory, and those records are lost. Base map data and pre-loaded POI databases survive because they sit on flash storage. Before swapping the battery, export any custom routes via the USB connection to a PC — that is the only way to recover them after a full power removal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Magellan Crossover is taking forever to find satellites after I put in the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the satellite almanac stored in RAM, forcing a cold start on next power-up. A cold start takes 5–10 minutes to download fresh almanac data from satellites, versus under a minute for a warm start. Go outside with a clear view of the sky, power the unit on, and leave it stationary until the fix locks — it will return to fast warm starts from that point forward.

The Crossover cuts off suddenly during navigation even though the battery indicator still showed bars — why?

The on-screen indicator reads voltage and maps it to a percentage curve tuned to the original cell. If that curve is out of sync, the device hits its hardware low-voltage cutoff — around 3.0V under GPS receiver and display load — before the visual warning triggers. Complete one full charge cycle from flat to 100% after installation. That gives the firmware enough data points to re-align the indicator with the actual charge curve.

The battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating versus when the unit is just sitting on the dash — is the cell faulty?

The cell is working normally. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full polling rate and keeps the display on continuously, which draws significantly more current than standby. Screen brightness is the largest single variable — dropping it one or two steps from maximum will reduce active draw noticeably. If drain still seems extreme, check whether the backlight is set to stay on permanently rather than dim after inactivity; that setting is under Display in the Crossover's system menu.
