Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Stiga Combi 43 AE / 48 AE / 50 S AE — 80V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SBT 2580AE)
This is an 80V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 2000mAh (160Wh), built to the SBT 2580AE specification. It fits the Stiga Combi 43 AE, Combi 43 S AE, Combi 48 AE, Combi 50 S AE, and a further twelve models in the Combi AE platform. The battery slides into the same bay as the original and communicates with the mower's onboard electronics using the same BMS handshake protocol.
- Combi AE platform compatibility: All listed Combi AE models run on the same 80V voltage rail and share an identical battery bay geometry and BMS communication protocol. A single battery design covers the full range because Stiga standardised the connector and cell configuration across this mower family.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full-load cycles simulating blade-motor inrush current at the 80V rail. The BMS correctly flagged over-current conditions during stress testing and recovered without manual reset once load normalised.
- Cold-weather start preparation: Before the first cut of the season, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current on a cold pack can trip the BMS before the motor reaches full speed.
BMS cutoff under thick-grass or wet-grass blade load
When the Combi AE hits dense or wet grass, the blade motor draws a surge of current that can spike well above normal operating draw in under a second. The BMS monitors this current spike and cuts the pack if the threshold is exceeded — a protective response, not a cell failure. Consistently mowing in heavy conditions without pausing accelerates this trigger. Mowing in two passes over thick patches, or letting the deck clear between rows, keeps the current draw below the BMS trip point and keeps the pack running.
Charger shows fault light after mower sat unused all winter
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage, and a full winter in an unheated garage can pull cell voltage below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the charger sees the pack as a fault condition and refuses to begin a charge cycle. To recover, some Stiga chargers have a trickle-recovery or "boost" mode — check the charger LED sequence in the manual, as a long press on the charge button can initiate a low-current pre-charge. If the charger accepts the pack in that mode, allow it to run until cell voltage climbs above 3.0V per cell before switching to normal charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Stiga Combi AE cuts out halfway through a row then starts again a few minutes later — what's happening?
This is thermal protection activating, not a faulty battery. The blade motor builds heat through sustained high-load cuts, and the BMS shuts the pack down once the cell temperature hits the protection threshold — it resets automatically once the pack cools. A five-minute pause with the mower stationary is usually enough for the BMS to allow a restart. If it happens repeatedly on the same row, mow that section in two lighter passes instead of one heavy cut.
The battery feels noticeably warmer than my old one after the first few charges — is that normal?
New Li-ion cells run warmer during the first three to five charge and discharge cycles while the electrodes condition and internal resistance settles. We measured elevated surface temperature on this pack for exactly that window before it stabilised. Warm to the touch is expected; hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold is not — if it reaches that point, stop charging and let it cool before the next cycle. After five full cycles, surface temperature during charge should match what you saw with your original battery.
The charger accepted the pack fine last autumn but won't start a charge now after winter storage — what do I check first?
Self-discharge over a cold winter storage period is the most common cause. If cell voltage has dropped below the charger's minimum acceptance threshold — around 2.5V per cell — the charger will refuse to begin a standard charge cycle and the fault light stays on. Check whether your Stiga charger supports a low-current recovery mode by consulting the LED sequence in the charger manual; on many models a long press of the charge button initiates a trickle pre-charge at reduced current. Allow that pre-charge to run until the charger switches automatically to its normal charge mode before disconnecting.
