Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 5 60GB — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (M02864T)
This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Archos 5 60GB portable media player. It replaces OEM part M02864T — the original flat cell that sits behind the touchscreen display assembly. Fits the 60GB hard drive variant of the Archos 5 series.
- Archos 5 60GB fit: The 60GB model uses a physically larger cell cavity than the flash-storage variants. This 96.50 × 74.00 × 4.00mm pouch cell matches that cavity and the original connector pinout, so the device firmware reads charge state correctly without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Archos 5 charging circuit and confirmed the BMS accepts charge from 0% without triggering a protection lockout. Charge termination tripped cleanly at 4.2V, with no thermal event during the constant-current phase.
- Post-swap power-on procedure: If the player sits unused for weeks after the swap, connect the charger and leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button. The Archos 5 enters a deep-discharge protection state that blocks normal startup until the cell reaches a minimum threshold voltage.
Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the Archos 5
After fitting a new cell, the Archos 5 firmware often displays erratic percentage readings — jumping from 80% to 20% mid-session, or bouncing at the top of the range. The onboard fuel gauge uses stored voltage-to-capacity curves calibrated to the old, degraded cell. A fresh cell with a steeper discharge curve confuses those thresholds. Run the player down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 4.2V. One full cycle is usually enough for the indicator to stabilise.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty
The Archos 5's audio amplifier draws a short current spike at the end of a track transition. Near the bottom of the discharge curve — typically below 3.5V — cell impedance rises enough that this spike causes a brief voltage sag. The BMS reads that dip as an undervoltage fault and shuts the device down, even if the indicator still shows a few percent remaining. This is a cell chemistry behaviour, not a firmware bug. If it happens consistently, the cell is at end of life; a fresh 2600mAh cell restores the full usable range.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Archos 5 60GB won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is the battery dead or is there something else going on?
Almost certainly deep-discharge protection. When a Li-Polymer cell drops below roughly 2.5V, the BMS locks the cell out to prevent damage, and the player won't respond to the power button at all. Plug in the charger and leave it connected for 30–45 minutes without pressing anything. Once the cell climbs back above the minimum threshold, the device will resume a normal charge cycle and power on.
The battery percentage on my Archos 5 is jumping all over the place — it showed 60% then dropped to 15% in ten minutes. What's happening?
The firmware's voltage-to-capacity map is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell has different internal impedance characteristics, so the indicator reads incorrectly until the gauge recalibrates. Drain the player fully until it shuts itself off, then charge it in one uninterrupted session to 4.2V. That single full cycle resets the reference points and the percentage display stabilises.
Video playback on my Archos 5 keeps cutting out suddenly even though the battery still shows charge remaining — what causes that?
The video decoder and display backlight together pull more current than audio-only playback. Near the end of the discharge curve, the cell's internal resistance rises and that combined load creates a voltage sag the BMS interprets as an undervoltage fault — triggering a shutdown before the indicator reaches zero. Check the resting cell voltage with a multimeter after shutdown; if it reads above 3.6V within a few minutes of cutting out, the cell has high impedance and needs replacing. A fresh 2600mAh cell eliminates the sag.
