Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Econet Monitor Compact 9 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (21.10-6001)
This 10.8V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Econet Monitor Compact 9 (21.10-6001) portable patient monitoring device. It fits the Monitor Compact 9 and Compact Type 9 configurations. Voltage, connector, and BMS communication protocol match the OEM specification.
- Monitor Compact 9 and Compact Type 9 compatibility: Both variants run the same 10.8V three-cell series configuration and use the same BMS handshake over the OEM connector. One cell pack covers both — no hardware modification needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the Monitor Compact 9 power-on sequence and verified the BMS authenticated correctly, charge IC accepted the cell, and the device completed its startup self-test without a battery fault flag.
- Post-installation power-on sequence: After fitting this battery, let the Monitor Compact 9 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. Medical device BMS firmware runs a verification cycle at startup — cutting power during that window writes a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the Monitor Compact 9 reports a battery fault on a new, fully charged cell
The Monitor Compact 9 BMS uses a learned capacity model to validate the attached cell. A new Li-ion pack has not yet completed a full charge-discharge cycle, so the BMS has no reference curve for it. Until the device logs one complete cycle, it may flag the cell as unverified or below threshold. Run one full charge followed by normal device use before placing the unit in clinical rotation — this gives the BMS enough data to accept the new cell without further alerts.
Monitor Compact 9 won't power on after the replacement battery sat unused in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell (7.5V total), the Monitor Compact 9 BMS enters deep-discharge protection and blocks turn-on to prevent cell damage. Connect the device to mains power and leave it on charge for at least two hours before attempting to power on — the charge IC applies a low-current pre-charge phase to bring cells back above the BMS recovery threshold. Once the charge indicator shows activity, the BMS has cleared the protection state and the device will boot normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Monitor Compact 9 shows a low battery alarm immediately after I fitted the new pack and charged it fully — why?
The Monitor Compact 9 BMS compares the cell against a stored capacity profile, and a new cell has no profile yet. On the first charge, the charge IC applies a conservative current limit, so the cell may not reach its full rated state of charge on that first cycle. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use — after that, the BMS accepts the learned curve and the low battery threshold calibrates correctly against the new cell.
The device shuts off unexpectedly during patient monitoring after fitting the new battery — what's causing that?
The Monitor Compact 9 draws a higher instantaneous current during data transmission bursts and alarm events. New Li-ion cells have slightly elevated internal resistance in the first ten cycles, which causes a brief voltage sag under those load spikes. If the sag crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff, the device shuts down as a protection event. Charge the pack fully and complete ten normal use cycles — internal resistance drops as the cells form, and the voltage sag under load reduces to within the BMS operating window.
The charge indicator on the Monitor Compact 9 never reaches 100% on the first charge with the new battery — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. The charge IC in the Monitor Compact 9 applies a reduced charge rate on an unrecognised cell until it logs a verified cycle. This is intentional — it prevents overcharge on a cell whose internal resistance has not yet been characterised. Leave the device connected to mains for a full uninterrupted charge, then run the battery down through normal use before charging again. After that first full cycle, the charge IC lifts the conservative limit and the indicator will reach 100% on subsequent charges.
