Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Franklin A50 / JEXtream RG2100 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ICQ037NA)

This is a 3.8V, 4850mAh (18.43Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Franklin A50, JEXtream, and RG2100 mobile hotspot devices. It replaces OEM part number ICQ037NA. When the original battery can no longer hold a charge through a full session, this is the direct swap.

  • A50, JEXtream, and RG2100 fit: All three models share the same physical footprint, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the hotspot firmware reads cell voltage and temperature data from the same register map across this platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery under simultaneous modem and Wi-Fi load with multiple connected clients. The BMS held stable voltage delivery and did not trigger a protective cutoff under combined radio draw.
  • Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the hotspot flat on an open surface during long sessions. When connected clients are far from the device, the cellular radio runs at peak output power — that heat sits directly against the battery. A blocked surface traps it and accelerates cell wear over time.

Why the A50 drops connections mid-session on a new battery

When several devices are connected at once, the modem and Wi-Fi radio draw current simultaneously. If the battery cell voltage sags under that combined load, the BMS briefly throttles output to protect the cell — the hotspot drops connections for a few seconds before recovering. This is more common when cellular signal is weak, because the modem increases transmit power to compensate. Keeping connected client count within the hotspot's rated maximum and placing the unit near a window reduces modem output demand and flattens the draw curve.

A50 won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the A50 sat long enough, the battery may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V per cell — and the BMS locks output to prevent deep-discharge damage. Plug the hotspot into its charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED does not activate within a few minutes, try a different charging cable, as the BMS recovery draw is low and a resistive cable can prevent the circuit from initiating.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Franklin A50 hotspot keeps dropping Wi-Fi for everyone connected to it — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. When multiple devices are connected and cellular signal is marginal, the modem and Wi-Fi radios draw peak current at the same time. If the battery cell voltage sags under that load, the BMS briefly cuts output and the hotspot drops all connected clients for a few seconds. Reduce the number of connected devices or move the hotspot closer to a window to lower modem transmit demand and stabilise the current draw.

The battery on my A50 drains much faster when I switch it to 5G mode — is that normal?

Yes, that is expected behaviour. The 5G modem draws roughly 30–50% more current than the 4G modem running at the same signal strength. Add poor signal forcing maximum transmit power and several active connected clients, and total radio draw can be significantly higher than the rated figure. If your usage area has inconsistent 5G coverage, locking the A50 to 4G LTE in the device settings extends each charge noticeably.

The A50 hotspot feels warm during a long session — does heat shorten the new battery's life?

It can. The cellular radio runs at maximum output power when connected clients are far away or signal is weak — that heat is generated right next to the battery cell. Li-Polymer cells degrade faster when held at elevated temperatures for extended periods. Keep the hotspot on an open, flat surface rather than a pocket or bag during long sessions, and position it as close as practical to a window or access point to reduce transmit power demand.
