Fits the Straight Talk UMX U240C mobile hotspot and directly replaces OEM battery part number MXE-650.
This 3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the capacity needed to sustain WiFi hotspot operation across multiple connected devices.
The battery uses a standard connector and seats flush into the U240C battery compartment with a single retention tab.
We ran the MXE-650 replacement on a U240C with four simultaneous device connections and cellular active — the BMS held voltage steady under combined modem and WiFi load.
If the hotspot disconnects users mid-session on this fresh battery, the cellular radio is drawing maximum power in weak signal — move the device closer to your signal source or reduce active connections.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Straight Talk UMX U240C — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (MXE-650)

This is a 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery for the Straight Talk UMX U240C portable Wi-Fi hotspot. It replaces OEM part MXE-650 directly. The U240C broadcasts a shared wireless network while the modem and radio run simultaneously — the battery handles both loads at once.

  • UMX U240C platform fit: The U240C runs a combined cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio off one 3.7V cell. Both subsystems share the same power rail, so the battery BMS must handle simultaneous draw spikes without tripping. This cell matches the voltage rail and connector spec to keep both radios up.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell under combined modem and Wi-Fi load — five connected clients pulling data while the modem held a 4G signal. The BMS held cutoff thresholds steady and did not trip on radio transmit spikes.
  • Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the U240C on a hard, open surface when running extended sessions. When client devices are at range limit, the cellular radio operates at peak output continuously, pushing heat directly into the cell. Trapping that heat against fabric or in a bag accelerates capacity loss.

Why the U240C drops all connected clients mid-session

The U240C runs both the LTE modem and the Wi-Fi access point off a single 3.7V cell. At maximum client connections, total current draw spikes hard — the modem transmits while every client pulls data simultaneously. If the cell voltage sags below the BMS low-voltage threshold during that spike, the BMS cuts output to protect the cell, dropping every connected device instantly. A fresh, full-capacity cell sustains voltage through those peaks where a degraded original cannot.

U240C won't power on after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month even when idle. If the U240C sat unused for an extended period, the cell may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage the device needs to initialise — typically around 3.0V. At that level the BMS blocks output entirely, so pressing the power button produces nothing. Charge the replacement battery for at least 30 minutes before the first boot attempt; most chargers will trickle-charge a deeply discharged cell up past the 3.0V threshold before switching to normal charge rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

My U240C keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds then reconnecting — why does this keep happening with a new battery?

This is a voltage sag trip, not a Wi-Fi issue. When multiple clients pull data simultaneously while the LTE modem is transmitting, current draw spikes sharply and cell voltage dips. If it dips past the BMS cutoff threshold — even briefly — the BMS kills output, dropping every client at once. Confirm the replacement cell is fully charged (charger LED shows complete) before testing under full client load; a partially charged cell sags harder under peak draw.

The U240C battery drains much faster than expected when I'm using it in a building with weak signal — is something wrong with the battery?

Nothing is wrong with the battery. In a poor-signal area, the LTE modem continuously ramps to maximum transmit power trying to hold the network connection. That sustained peak radio draw is the single largest current consumer in the device — significantly higher than normal operation. Move the hotspot closer to a window or an exterior wall to improve signal strength; reducing transmit power is the most direct way to slow drain under those conditions.

The U240C gets noticeably warm after an hour of use — is that a battery problem or a device problem?

Heat during extended sessions is normal for this device class, but location matters. The cellular radio and Wi-Fi chip both generate heat, and that heat accumulates in the battery compartment. Placing the hotspot on a fabric surface or inside a bag traps heat against the cell, which accelerates capacity degradation over time. Set it on a hard flat surface with the vents unobstructed; if the unit becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, check that no more than the rated number of clients are connected simultaneously.
