Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker BDGL1800 Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (244760-00)
This is an 18V 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the Black & Decker BDGL1800 cordless string trimmer and edger. It replaces OEM part 244760-00 and fits the BDGL18K-2, XTC183BK, XTC18BK, and over 160 additional compatible models on the same 18V platform. Voltage and capacity match the original spec.
- BDGL1800 platform fit: These models share a common 18V rail, the same slide-in connector footprint, and a compatible BMS handshake. One pack works across the full 18V line because the cell voltage window and communication protocol are consistent across these SKUs.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and load cycles on a BDGL1800 trimmer head. The BMS held stable under motor-start inrush and did not trip on repeated trigger pulls at full throttle. Cell balance stayed within spec across five discharge cycles.
- First two cycles on string trimmer use: Run the trimmer at half-line-feed load for the first two cycles before tackling dense grass or heavy edging. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you push maximum draw.
BMS cutoff on trigger pull in the BDGL1800
The BDGL1800 motor draws a sharp inrush spike the instant the trigger engages — often two to three times the running current. A new pack from storage may have a conservative overcurrent threshold that trips on this spike before the BMS has profiled the load. The result is an immediate shutoff that looks like a dead battery but isn't. Running two partial cycles trains the BMS to the motor's actual startup draw and raises the threshold accordingly.
Charger stays solid red and never switches to green on a new pack
After extended storage, individual cells can drop below 2.5V — the threshold most Black & Decker 18V chargers require before entering full charge mode. A solid red light with no transition usually means the charger is refusing the pack, not that the pack is dead. Leave the pack on the charger for 20 to 30 minutes; some chargers include a trickle-recovery mode that will slowly bring cells back above 2.8V before switching to normal charge. If the light hasn't changed after 45 minutes, check cell voltage at the pack terminals — anything above 10V total across the 18V pack means recovery is still possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BDGL1800 trimmer cuts out the moment I pull the trigger — is it the battery or the motor?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. The trimmer motor pulls a high inrush spike on startup, and a new or recently stored pack often has an overcurrent threshold set too low to allow that spike. Run two light-load cycles — trimming short, thin grass — before using the trimmer on thick or overgrown areas. After those cycles the BMS will have profiled the motor draw and the cutout will stop.
The trimmer runs but bogs down badly under any real load — new battery, same problem.
Voltage sag under load usually points to high contact resistance at the battery rail, not a weak cell. Remove the pack, clean the slide-in terminals on both the pack and the tool with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly until it clicks. If sag continues, check that the terminal pins on the tool aren't bent or recessed — even a 0.2Ω increase in contact resistance will drop the 18V rail enough to cause the motor to bog mid-cut.
Battery worked fine in summer but the BDGL1800 barely runs now that the temperature has dropped — what changed?
Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the pack can deliver and causes the BMS to trip earlier under load. Store the pack indoors at room temperature and only insert it into the trimmer just before use — a warm pack starts with significantly lower internal resistance than a cold one. If you're working in near-freezing conditions, keep a second pack in a jacket pocket and swap when the tool slows down.
